Lee Precision308 Collet Die Only

Excellent tool for the price.
I strongly suggest taking it apart before using and removing any burrs between the collet fingers. Also, apply some moly grease to the tapered collet surfaces. If you have a Lee press, follow the instructions, but if you have a Rock Chucker or other press that cams over center, setup as described here (see post #3 and ignore the others): http://benchrest.com/showthread.php?49899-Lee-Collet-Die-AdjustmentThe best part of using this is that you don't need to lube the case at all. You can fine tune the amount of bullet grip tension (press-fit amount) up to the point where you reach the outside diameter of the dies mandrel. You can get an even tighter fit if desired by polishing the mandrel down by a thousanth of an inch or so or ordering an undersize mandrel from Lee. I have found that the assembled cartridge's bullet runout decreases the closer you go to the maximum press fit since the case neck will be more round the closer you get to the mandrel. Keep in mind that if the case neck wall thickness varies from one side to the other, you will see increased runout from that. My once-fired cases ended up with assembled cartridge bullet runout between <.001-.003" T.I.R.

A little disappointed
I checked the neck concentricity on ten, once fired .308 Win Federal cases, all were less then .001. I set up the die in my RCBS press, The first case I sized came out of the press still to big to seat a bullet and had some serious gouges in the neck. I put it back in the press and really leaned hard on it. Took it out of the press and a .3065 pin would go in and a .3070 pin would not. There were more gouges in the neck. I used some 400 grit sand paper and polished the inside of the collet. That helped a little with the gouges. I ended up sizing the case, lowering the case, rotating the case 180 degrees and sizing it a second time. Most of the cases checked within .002 concentricity. Not sure if the gouges will effect the accuracy or the life of the case. Anyhow, it was less then I hoped for.

Best neck sizing die bar none
This inexpensive die yields the most consistently accurate cases I have ever reloaded. I suggest Googleing how to properly set it up. There are multiple forum posts that differ from the included instructions and will prevent you from damaging the die. Any negative reviews are from improper use. A big part is disassembling the die and greasing the collet before use. You also screw the die down just far enough to size the case neck to tightly fit a bullet. You don't need to use much pressure at all on the press handle to size the neck, just consistent force. Also sizing the neck and then rotating the case slightly and sizing again seems to increase consistency. This die sizes the necks of fire formed cases to exactly. 001" of neck tension and less than .001" runout every time.

Trouble with RCBS press and certain brass
I see I'm not the only one who has trouble with the collet closing. I'm an experienced re-loader but have troublethe collet squeezing Lapua or Nosler brass. I tried using a philips heads screw driver to loosen it up. Most of theheavier brass allows the bullets to be pulled out or pushed in the brass by hand. It words awesome for my 6.5 CMand Hornady brass.

Great to only resize the neck
Used this to resize the neck only in Brass that was Shot in my gun. I don’t use in a gun that this brass was not shot in. Keep the brass separate . This did not alter the oal

Great tool but be careful!
If I could give this 4.5 stars, I would. It is a phenomenal tool - and my brass wouldn't be usable without it. It took me a fair bit of frustration with a good two piece die set before I finally invested in a proper gauge, only to discover that all of my once-fired Lake City brass was just the tiniest bit too big at the neck. Fast forward, I got the four piece Lee Precision .308 set. Worked really well at first, but I tried to use a (honest) tiny bit too much force on my Hornady LNL ammo plant and the guts went to s***. I couldn't get them out, and in trying to get them out, only made it worse. So I reinvested another $23 into this guy because let's face it, the first one that I screwed up was not the mfg's fault, and set it up by the book (again). Again, just the tiniest bit too much on the compression and the cap of the die popped up, stripping the threads out. Had I not had the other (broken by me) die, I would have been out another $23 almost immediately. The other cap was in like-new condition though, and worked fairly well on the slightly stripped die. Not trying to place any blame on Lee - this product does exactly what it is supposed to do! But be careful as when using any type of press that 'cams over', you need to have it as low as you can go so it will not have any additional compression from the cam. A little lithium grease on the guts of this has also gone a long way. I managed to resize approximately 300 case necks in about an hour last night. BE GENTLE. Get a feel for it - it really only takes an extra mm to engage once the case is in it and any more will end your session. It is a quality product for a reasonable price that does what it advertises - but it is certainly a tool that requires some care as you're using it!

I have had excellent results with this die in 308 win loading for a factory Remington 5R with the Sendero heavy barrel. I use the collet die, then turn the case slightly and run it into the die again. I then use a Redding body die to full length size and bump the shoulder back .001" My loaded rounds have less than .001" runout.Lee sells mandrels in larger or smaller diameters in.001" increments if you find you want a different neck tension. They also sell replacement aluminum caps for $5.

Be careful how you setup
Be careful how you setup in your press. Watch the youtube video first before screw down your press. You might end up breaking it without fully understand how this die work. This neck sizer die is completely different from the Redding , rcbs and hornady

Great product for the price!
I bought a Redding neck sizer two month ago and couldn't get a better runout than .007". Saw this one on Amazon and gave it a try. I get a better brass concentricity(.002") with the lee collet die than my Redding die, which is twice the price! The only downside of this die is it's not a bushing, so you will get those kind of "crimp lines" around your brass neck(which are not totaly resized). If you turn your brass 1/8 of a turn and resize it in the die again, you will get better results.Be sure to read the instructions carefully before use, it's not totally the same if you have a lee press or another brand press.I definitely will buy this die again for another caliber!
