The Marrex MX-IR5 is a long range remote controlled shutter release device, which allows you to activate your cameras shutter release and have it take a picture without you being physically by the camera and pressing the release button. The remote is a lightweight control system that will help you avoid unwanted camera movement. This makes it useful for photographing wildlife or for macro and long exposures where it is necessary to eliminate any chance of camera shake. It is universal and is compatible with most cameras. You can now take those full shots with the Grand Canyon behind you, with Niagara Falls rushing right beside you or just simply you and a loved one without having to be by the camera peering through the viewfinder.Specifications Remote Type: Wireless: IR (Infrared) Compatibility: EOS, Nikon, Sony, Pentax & Olympus Cameras that feature an IR sensor Wireless Range: 19-82 feet (6-25m). Left in the dark
This simple infrared remote operates satisfactorily although I have not tested it for operation at or near the 25 meter distance limits cited for use with a Nikon camera. The remote bears no exterior manufacturer identification, brand name, or model number so, if I toss the package, I have no product information whatsoever. This remote is not accompanied by any owner information whatsoever. The remote operates on one 3 volt button battery. All non-destructive approaches I could think of to open the battery tray/door have failed. I emailed the manufacturer's customer service with my request for the appropriate owner instructions including specifics to this particular challenge. The email form stated my email would be responded to in 24 hours. That was four days ago and to date I have no response. If I can't open the battery door, eventually I'll be forced to discard and replace this remote. If I don't get some enlightenment from the manufacturer as to how to replace the battery, I certainly won't be buying another Marrex MX-IR5.

DOA - NEVER FUNCTIONED
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS REVIEW?This product was tried immediately upon receipt and did not function AT ALL - DOA. It was tried with several Nikon, Sony, Pentax and Olympus cameras and it did not function (all of the test cameras functioned with the OEM-provided short range remote control). And, yes, the battery blocker was removed from the case however the design of the “long range” remote is such that the battery compartment cannot be opened to confirm battery contact. At this price, it is not worth spending my time and resources to return it. Trash can, here it comes and the manufacturer and selling company just lost a client, permanently.

A great product, so far
A great product, so far. Small, compact, yet works well anywhere within 8 to 10 feet. No hassle with remote cables getting in your way, and no other bulky items to carry in your camera bag. This guy is so small, it will fit anywhere. I just slip mine in my pants pocket, and off I go.My only concern, while this little IR devise is great, wondering about having to replace the battery. I have tried, unsuccessfully, to open the battery compartment door. Will cross this bridge is or when I have to. But for the size, and range of this unit, I would highly recommend.

Sadly, does not work with my Richo wg-50
Was hoping to trigger my camera while it was on a selfie stick for those hard to reach inspections but the remote fails to trigger the shutter on my ricoh wg-50. I've verified that the ir diode is lighting up and my remote control is enabled on the camera (a cowerkers remote is able to trigger my camera) but this remote doesn't do anything for mine.

Doesn't Work
I've tried it on a Pentax and a Canon, both models listed as compatible, with no success. I am going to try a different battery, see if that changes anything, and potentially update from there. And, to people saying they have to bust the remote to get to the battery, the battery door is screwed shut. You need to find a very tiny screwdriver and remove the screw, then you can (with some additional effort) get it open.

Muy util
Aun lo estoy probando, y hasta ahorita lo único que no me gusta es que en ocaciones debo apuntar directamente al sensor de la cámara para que funcione. Tal vez solo sea cuestión de familiarizarme más con él.

Could not use. My error
I made a mistake ordering this as my Coolpix can only use Wifi or Blutooth connection. Otherwise, I'm sure remote trigger device was fine.
