CLAUDINE/PIPE DREAMS
THIS DOUBLE MOVIE CD IS AN EXCELLENT BUY. I RECENTLY SAW THE MOVIE CLAUDINE, LOVED THE SONGS PLAYING DURING THE MOVIE, ESPECIALLY "INVISIBLE" AND KNEW I WANTED TO HAVE THIS CD. DESPITE THE FACT OF MY LIFE NOT BEING EXACTLY AS CLAUDINES', I COULD STILL RELATE TO THE MESSAGES IN THE SONGS AND COULD SEE HOW ALL THE SONGS RELATED TO ONE CHARACTER OR ANOTHER IN THE MOVIE INCLUDING THE KIDS. THE CLAUDINE PORTION OF THE SOUNDTRACK IS VERY FUN AND EASY TO SING ALONG TOO. I SAW PIPEDREAMS ONE TIME BUT BASED ON WHAT I REMEMBER OF THAT MOVIE, THE SONGS ALSO RELATED WELL TO THE MOVIE. I NEVER HEARD THE PIPEDREAMS SONGS BEFORE NOW BUT STILL REALLY ENJOYED THEM. GLADYS KNIGHT HAS A TIMELESS VOICE LIKE NO OTHER. SHE AND THE PIPS DID BOTH SOUNDTRACKS JUSTICE. THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY FOR THIS DOUBLE SOUNDTRACK. THE ONLY THING, I WISH THE LYRICS WERE INCLUDED SO I COULD ESPECIALLY SING ALONG TO PIPEDREAMS BUT IM LEARNING THEM. I KNOW ALMOST ALL THE LYRICS TO CLAUDINE NOW SINCE I LISTENED TO THAT SOUNDTRACK THREE TIMES STRAIGHT A FEW WEEKS BACK.LOL!

"Make yours a happy home" is my favorite song from this album
For my taste "Claudine" was an unpretentious and mediocre story movie. However, the soundtrack songs from Gladys Knight and the Pips got more popularity than the movie. The OST album released by Buddha records has that special 70's soul music sound. "Make yours a happy home" is my favorite song from this album. The second half of this CD includes the OST of "Pipe dreams." Which apparently was shelved or got little exposure. Same thing as "Claudine" the singing performances of Gladys Knight and the Pips are outstanding. "I want to follow my dreams" and "A little pot of jazz" are my favorites here.

REVIEW: Claudine/Pipe Dreams 2 Original Soundtracks by Gladys Knight & The Pips
With the early 1970's being an explosionary era of so many music jams making the Top 10 through the theater line, "Claudine" (1974) was not only a film that carried 5 songs to the Top 10 --but was a wonderful love story that Diahnn Carroll & James Earl Jones set the perfect drama and emotions to, while Curtis Mayfield (*again) rains his musical gift on the moods of another very beautiful Technicolor. You'll love BOTH the movies (esp. "Claudine") & the Soundtrack. The Search, find, price-deals, sales...or Amazon-Prime? Has me, now with a LIBRARY of CD's, DVD's, Classic LP's, books, magazines, etc. !!!

Sublime '70s Soul!
I missed both of these soundtracks the first time around, when they were released in 1974 and 1976 respectively. My loss, because there is some great music to be found on this reissued 2-for-1 CD. No bonus tracks, but you still get both soundtracks in their entirety. The real gem, and a definite 5-star album on its own, is "Claudine." Having all the songs written and produced by Curtis Mayfield is the clincher for me, but Gladys Knight more than hold her own on this material. Soul music at its best. The other soundtrack, "Pipe Dreams" is not nearly as well known, but it's got some good material too, sourced by a variety of writers. My favorite track on that one is "Alaskan Pipeline", written by Ivory Joe Hunter, and I think it ranks up there with some of Gladys Knight's very best songs. The other tunes are a combination of vocal and instrumental material, nice to hear, but not nearly as potent as the tracks on "Claudine."This CD comes with an informative booklet that includes an essay about each recording written by A. Scott Galloway. An essential purchase for any Gladys Knight fan, as well as those with a hankering for sublime 1970s soul music.

Liegt wohl an ihrer warmen Stimme.Kann ich jedem empfehlen, der auf zeitlos gute Musik steht.

Recommended to fans of Curtis Mayfield
I've always been more of fan of Curtis Mayfield than of Gladys Knight & The Pips , but this pair of soundtracks, the eponymous Claudine by Curtis Mayfield and a lesser effort Pipe Dreams got me checking out GK & The Pips other work and they're certainly better than I've ever given them credit for, although in my opinion nothing else they did comes close to the Mayfield stuff here, which is, as you might expect, uniformly excellent and typical of his work in this period.Gladys and the Pips turn out to be surprisingly good interpreters - in my opinion making far better collaborators than Aretha Franklin does on another Mayfield soundtrack Sparkle. For me, this works really well and my only regret is that they didn't work together on anything else.Pipe Dreams is a lesser effort, although still very enjoyable, and it does, perhaps, provide the best track of the cd - the beautiful ballad So Sad The Song,co-written by Gerry Goffin (of Goffin & King fame)and Michael Masser (who also wrote Touch Me In The Morning and Do You Know Where You're Going To? two of Diana Ross' better solo efforts) which is almost worth the price of purchase on its own.Definitely a high point of Gladys Knight's output. The rest of the album isn't bad, personally I like the jazzier numbers and think they work really well, but for my money Gladys Knight and Curtis Mayfield were a marriage made in heaven and hard to beat.
