Great series, everything you need and more
I had heard a little about this, and I had downloaded some clips from another site, but little did I know that a great show was hiding under all that, and it wasn't until I ordered the show properly after finding it cheap that I realised just how good it was.A lesbian show set in Glasgow, (I originally thought it was set in London, since everything else is and some of the accents are far from Scottish, they're English and cockney), which has characters you love, even the so called bad ones, and it has great love triangles, comedy, tragedy and passion. UK shows of course do not run for long, unlike in the US where they run for whole seasons, except for now maybe where they run much shorter, but even though it does not run for long, it's so many episodes of great drama. Only two series sadly were made before the BBC decided to leave it, and it's six episodes in each series, obviously twelve in all. The first series is great and anyone who is interested in lesbian drama, which features laughs, tragedy, great drama and yes, delicious helpings of sex, should check it out. There were comparisons at the time of its broadcast by the way with The L-Word, the US show about lesbian relationships, but I frankly found that rather disappointing I'm sorry to say, and I didn't keep the first season for long before selling it (they made 6 seasons apparently). This Lip Service however, I loved.I won't say too much about the story or characters, since you could find that out for yourself and you don't need me being Irving the explainer, but the lead, Frankie, is a bit of a bad girl, who is extremely careless in her relationships with other lesbians and she has a rather mysterious past and her main squeeze is Cat. Cat is also torn between her and another new love, Sam, (Heather Peace), who is strong, sexy, safe and ready. Nuff said. This show hooked me completely and I have now watched it through three times already and will watch it many times before whenever I can. I have the first series on DVD and the second series on blu-ray. Highly recommended.

Lip Service Series 1: excellence in all areas
This short series, only six episodes, is one of the best written drama shows around. Focusing on three friends in Glasgow, all of whom happen to be lesbians, has not been done before with such honesty. There is a lot of humour in the script too, as well as plenty of drama to push the storylines along. What really stands out is that it isn't preachy or trying to instruct anyone about being queer, as that's already been done. So a series after The L Word is free to allow the characters the freedom to exist within their world without having to reference a variety of issues that aren't germaine to the characters. The scriptwriting is excellent. The storytelling is well backed up by excellence in other areas, such as the cinematography, set design and costume. All are modern and appropriate to the style of the show and the story told through the eyes of the characters. The cinematography also shows Glasgow off really well and the soundtrack is all local bands apparently. The editing is also really well done and is absolutely seamless. The acting is first rate. Having one of Scotland's stars in one of the main roles probably doesn't hurt either, especially as Laura Fraser is gorgeous as well as having the depth to play the part. Her character, Cat McKenzie, is the core character in many ways, as the two other main characters are her best friend and her ex-lover, and other characters are her brother, her new lover, and her work colleague. What's lovely is that it really isn't about being gay, but about characters who happen to be gay (and out, and not tortured about it for a change). And their world feels much more real in that it contains people who are straight, and men too. That's not to say that there isn't lots of lesbian sex, and some of it is really hot, but that its all done in context and all of it is appropriate to the characters at that time in their lives. Brave performances from the actors make it much more real too.I loved this series. Apparently the BBC has commissioned another series, so hats off to all involved in the production and good luck with series 2.

Lip Service hits the spot
Caught the series half way through its run, catching up on missed eppisodes on the i player, before buying the DVD. What can I say, a thoroughly enjoyable tragi comedy about the lives of 3 lesbians and thier friends set in Glasgow, with great casting, great actors and great story written by Harriet Braun. The actors many which were unknown to me do a great job of making the charactors believable and likeable, and from what I ve seen on the internet, has propelled some of them (Heather Peace & Rutta Gedmiinta) practically to sex symbol status in the LGBT community. Often dark, dry and very witty, its one of the most enjoyable bits of tv I ve watched all year, roll on series 2, which by the way the BBC are still dithering over commissioning, come on beeb less strictly and more lip service.

Brilliant
New lesbian drama set in Glasgow. On a smaller budget than the L word but the characters are more believable and normal (yes they live in expensive flats in Glasgow and have nice clothes, but they're not Hollywood film directors!). It is something lesbians in their 20s and 30s can easily relate to, and focuses on the connections between people rather than the huge issues the L word tried to deal with. I would recommend this to people of all sexualities.

wonderful
wonderful tv series i first watched on bbc3,essentially the story of 4 lesbians and theyre friends set in glasgow, there are steamy sex scenes in this, but the best bit is the terrific storyline, there are sevaral storylines runnjing at once but the main story concerns the blonde character coming back to glasgow after 3 years after running out on her childhood love, for her auntys funeral and then its basically about her tangled family and trying to win back her first love, superb hope theres a second series

super!
