Q: Is it easier to install the lights as you build the model or after completing construction?

When I built the Titanic, I installed the lighting system as I was building it. If you do that then be extra careful as you will have to follow two sets of instructions, one for the ship and one set for the lighting system. You will also have to improvise along the way to keep up with both sets of instructions. In the end the finished product came out exactly as I wanted it to. Good luck.

Q: Do the led change color? If so how many colors? The picture of the remote make it seem like it does. But it doesn't say anywhere that it does.

No, the lights do NOT change color. The blue that you see on the bottom of the ship are actually blue leds, all the rest used throughout the ship are white or off white.

Q: Does this titanic light set also come with the smokestack smoke effect?

Yes, the smokestack effects are included. Be prepared for a long install as per the directions. By the way, the directions do not come with the light kit. They are on the maker's website. You can download them, but they are 192 pages long.
