What makes this book so powerful and useful is that it is basically three books in one.
The book is a really great reference guide to the update of Moodle program.1. It guides you through the course design process with very clear checklists, graphs, and guides so that you can set up your own course design document and create a template for all your courses and your entire curriculum.2. You can start using Moodle 4.0's refreshed design and user interface to create courses that work equally well with smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktops -- and which have a great, refreshed dashboard that keeps you on track and encourages interaction and collaboration.3. You can set up your own self-contained learning programs that let students self-register, pay for courses, access the content (made accessible for all users), practice assessments, take the assessments, demonstrate mastery, automatically generate a badge and a certificate, and log the results with the credentialing organization for verification. This book encourages you to be creative and to find ways to address the needs that people have to gain the skills and knowledge that will help one be successful in unusual and unpredictable times.Moodle can have a pretty steep learning curve, but this book makes it easy. One of the best aspects is that it brings everything together so that what can be rather mysterious or opaque in Moodle is very easy to understand. For example, the book has a chart that shows the redesigned logos for the different Resources and Activities. In addition to showing the logo and describing what it is, the book goes into when and where to use them. The possibilities are exciting - everything from text-based information and diagrams to immersive 3D simulations and reality. This is a must have book to help in developing on line short courses.

Excellent resource covering both course design and function for Moodle LMS
Susan Smith Nash has written an excellent book that has extensive coverage of course design and function in Moodle 4.0. I really appreciated that Susan provides great tips on good learning design all the while providing clear instructions with relevant screenshots for completing key tasks in Moodle, as well as suggestions for keeping things organized and consistent anticipating growth and usage by students and teachers. As an experienced Moodler myself, I appreciated Susan highlighting what has changed with the most recent release of Moodle, but see how this book would also be valuable to new Moodle teachers and administrators alike. The focus on good instructional design based on systematic design models for asynchronous, synchronous and hybrid learning modalities makes this a great book for all teachers.

Everything one needs to start a learning community!
The book is well organized and practical and nature. It has pretty much everything one needs to start and build a Moodle site and courses. Think of it like a Boot Camp for Moodle and your own learning platform. I’ve known Susan for many years and she has always been involved in effective learning technologies and tools. Her and her co-author's approach is very much a simple straightforward utilitarian one. Whether if you are brand new to Moodle or someone who has used and used it for years, this will be a great handbook and reference guide when administering your Moodle site and building your learning experiences for your needs. I highly recommend this book and applaud the work that the authors have done on it.
