Interessante Geschichte

Time travel in 12 hours
I usually don't read murder mysteries but I do like stories of time travel, and the idea of being able to go back in time to prevent a death is intriguing. Nick Quinn's wife is murdered, and a strange man presents him with a beautiful antique pocket watch and a letter. Nick is given 12 hours to go back in time to change the events leading to his wife's death. At first he has no idea who the murderer is or why the murder occurs, and his first few trips back in time are to gather evidence. However, the idea that every action, even if infinitesimal, affects the future becomes more and more apparent each time Nick moves back in time, and he has to figure out just how and where he needs to make a change to stop the murder.Although there are some repetitious passages, this is a clever book, and I particularly like the ending. There's a little twist that will leave you wondering.

Strong beginning that doesn't quite deliver the ending
For an original concept, you aren't going to come much better than a novel told backwards. While I didn't really see how a man going back an hour at a time to stop his wife's murder would work, it really does. Each hour bring some new discovery that has bearing on the next hour and seemingly minor things can become major over time. There's just one problem: our hero, Nick Quinn, doesn't seem to learn very well.By the time most of the pieces are in place and you at least have a good idea of who the bad guys really are, Nick just keeps doing stupid things that lead to his capture. He allows himself to be approached by the villains time and again, and they just keep catching him and he narrowly escapes. Whereas a normal man would eventually say, "Ok, I'll stop this by just finding the bad guy and shooting him" since you know in an hour it's all going to change back anyway, our hero Nick just keeps confronting the bad guys and getting captured again and again, while watching his wife die four different times in the book. Rather than use the information to make smart choices, he just seems to get dumber as the pages go on. At first I thought it would be explained as some mental problems from the time traveling, but nope, it's just because the guy has no idea what he's doing. If you can work beyond the aggravation of continually saying, "Why on earth did he just do that? He knows the guy is bad and wants to kill him! He knows what's going to happen!", you'll find the book an original story that really succeeds on some levels but fails just as bad on others. I'm not sorry I read it, but it's not one of those stories I'll keep on the shelf for another go round in the future.
