Q: How well does this play with 2 players?

Not the best game at 2 players. The one I totally recommend for 2 players is “Jaipur”. Usually trick taking games need special rules for 2 players.

Q: Is the box bigger than the first edition? Why?

I have 2nd editon not 1st editon. Space-wise the box could be a little smaller if they wanted it to be. I have a friend with 1st edition it is a little smaller.

Q: Is there a difference between this edition and the regular ol' Diamonds game?

This edition includes the thief mini-expansion, which helps smooth out the clubs action to make sure that no one player gets stolen from more than the others. You can easily play without it if you like. Other than that, same as the original Diamonds game.
