Q: Are these heavy duty or don't they bend

They are as "heavy duty" as any pin of this size. I don't believe they are stainless steel because they do rust if used in a damp environment. You can bend them - I have, in the normal course of wearing them, when used to secure a knee brace.

Q: Surprised by big price for safety pins - geez! are these strong like old times? sharp? won't bend?

The quality of the metal is not like before but it’s good. I use it to pin my jean’s waistband from keeping my jeans from falling. It didn’t bend when I’m inserting into the thick material.

Yes, I think so. But they are pretty big, so I would try it first.
