I personally found it to be true to size. I have the xl and for me, it was tight enough to work but not so tight that I couldn't get it on. It was my everyday go-to until I recently found another 1 I like better. But I still wear these at different times.

Q: Does this smooth out the tummie?

I did not buy it for tummy control. Most Yummie products (especially leggings) are true to size, however I did buy the M/L even though I am a size 4-6. Small feels very tight on me. It doesn’t roll up my stomach like the others so I would say it does smooth out the tummy if the tummy is already flat.
