Part 1 of an ongoing trilogy, I couldn't put down the audiobook and binged in like a few days. Bought this paperback version just so I could have a physical copy. Bonus illustrations inside by the author. Characters are really well fleshed out and relatable too.

This story was captivating from the very first page. I have enjoyed sci-fi for my whole life, and I find that it can be very easy for the grandeur of the environment and technology featured in any given story to eclipse the character development, but Rick avoids this potential pitfall by introducing us to interesting and dynamic characters as well as futuristic technology and interplanetary settings. He also shows a nuanced perspective of environmental similarities and differences in interplanetary contact, such as the (in)compatibility of different species' atmospheres, which demonstrates a sensitivity to the balance between science and fiction.Overall, I was really impressed, and I can't wait for volume II!

I've known Rick Griffin's works for a long while now, I mostly kept to his comics and visual material. Yet I decided to get this book to see how his writting was, to be honest I was pleasantly surprised with the story, very engaging at times. It has one or two skips here and there but nothing I wasn't prepared for.The only thing I can say is to have an open mind, since there's a few mature themes and content that some might find strange, but its all in good fun and they don't stop the plot that much. Be ready though and I recomend to check some of his other works as well.

Been a fan of Griffin's comics for over a year, recently decided to dive into his writing. Very glad I did! I was hooked beginning to end. Immersive settings, delightful characters, and a powerful story throughout. This is sci-fi at its best. Please check out this series and support its criminally underrated creator!
