An mature approach to being a kind person
An mature approach to being a kind person. Not the silly "scatter kindness like confetti", but a mature, deep, intelligent approach to becoming a kind human being. Highly recommend.

Very personal account
Lots of good information, and very honestly and vulnerably told. Sometimes the writing was a bit over the top, but all in all, well worth it.

the best book on kindness I have read
Well worth the readThis book is more than candy coated random acts of kindness to do lists. It will get you re-evaluating how you give kindnesses.

Opening your heart and mind
Firstly, WOW. Very fresh perspectives of topics we may not take much time thinking about. This book had me hooked from beginning to end(which is quite hard for me as my mind tends to wander while I read). I feel like a pretty introspective person but this booked really packed a punch for the ol noggin. I now see people in a completely new light, which has helped me in practicing deep kindness. I'm passing this along to friends, and then I'll be re-reading. Hopeful to read more from Houston in the not so distant future!

Powerful and life-changing perspective on kindness
I am an elementary school counselor and a huge proponent of kindness. This book redefined what true kindness looks like and continues to challenge me to view others through a new, more compassionate lens. Prior to World Kindness Day in November, I read parts of chapter three of Deep Kindness to my fifth graders. Then we read "The Potato Chip Champ" by Maria Dismondy and discussed the different types of kindness expressed by characters in the story. Students were then challenged to look for opportunities to demonstrate "deep kindness". I reminded them that it would be hard and would require courage, but that's the type of kindness that will make the world a better, kinder place. Thank you for this challenging book that I have been sharing with others, both young and old.

Depressing
I wanted this book to help me find ways to show kindness to other people and help out the world because I'm struggling right now with the cruelty I see around me. But this book was all about how HARD it is to really be kind, and all the obsticles there are to being kind and how people rarely do it. The author was very upfront about how he is unable to be kind in his own life. It the end it was REALLY depressing to read it. He even had a whole chapter on how badly we are likely to be treated if we are kind and how we will be ridiculed for being kind. Nothing yet about any benefit to being kind and I gave up on the book. I really wanted to like it, but can't.

Revolutionary! A MUST HAVE!
Houston's message will change the way we move forward in kindness! I was blessed to have met the remarkable author at a national teacher's conference and his message was very clear. My hour in his session was one that stays with me and I hold dear in my heart. Houston has an infectious smile and strong conviction that we must think, act and talk in kindness. He not only talks the talk, but walks the walk in all that he does. His programs, website, updates, webinars and everything he does support his message. We need people and books like this now more than ever. Buy this book for every teacher, parent and important person in your life and see the goodness that can spread across the land if only we hold kindness in our hearts each day.

A timely and important read
This book arrives into the world in a time when it could not be needed more. With the fear, anxiety, uncertainty and overt division of our country and our planet, Deep Kindness is a necessary re-examination of the way our world views, values and acts - or fails to act- in kindness. With thoughtful reflection questions and tangible actions at the end of each chapter, this is a book that not only redefines what it means to TRULY be "kind", but provides real action items to put these concepts into practice. This is a book I will refer back to often and hope that every friend, family member, parent and human in my life will read alongside me.

Nice
This is a really easy-reading book that may help the way you think about your environment and how you can start changing it with little actions. Everyone should read and apply what’s in this book. Thanks, Houston.
