Entertaining source of fascination
I have been looking for one of these for probably 35 years, finally did a web search for "sippy bird", and found this one.It arrived in good condition, despite the shipper bending/crushing the small box holding the item. Packaging was sufficient to withstand government abuse - a good thing.Instructions on the box were adequate to get it working quickly, but neglect to inform you that whatever surface this sets on will get wet, with one drop of water per head bob. Perhaps some head bobs don't leave a drop behind, but I haven't watched it long enough yet.In operation, this essentially transfers the water in the cup to both the air (through evaporation), and to the back end side of the bird, on the surface under the bird pedestal. I hope that makes sense. Important: Make sure that whatever the pedestals rests on is waterproof.This is very enjoyable to watch - kind of mesmerizing, like a campfire. Especially if you are a big kid (50's), like me.

Give it a break
Break gets gets and moldy if you keep it going for a long time, so it's just a short term thing for kids. I suppose you could try some kind of chemical in the water to fix this.

Retro Fun!
Had one of these as a kid decades ago. These work pretty much the same. It needs a little attention to set up and keep the glass filled but it still mesmerizes watching the bird swing and dunk after all these years.

Non functional bird!
Just doesn't work. The proportions prohibit proper scientific exploration. It's CRAP!
