Works better than expected
I used this chipper for 3 1/2 hours my 1st time. I had no jams and never overheated. Most of the branches were 1/4" to 1" and 3 to 4 feet long. The chipper was fast and easy to use. I placed a box under the chute then dumped it into a bag when full. I read complaints that it did not chop twigs well. I held twigs in a bundle about 1' in diameter then fed the bundle of twigs into the chopper. The chipper treated the bundle as a branch and was much more effective.

Effectively reduces tree debris down to very little
I have a house built in 1948 along the Stanislaus river. The house is way up in the bank and terraces down to an overflow flood control built by the Army Corps of Engineers. The flood control has not been maintained and we have a lot of overgrown trees and compost piled up on our lowest retaining wall. I needed a wood chipper to help reduce the tree debris down to help me clear it out a little more efficiently. So I bought this one as it fit our budget and our needs. For several months I have been using this every couple of weeks to reduce down fallen branches and twigs. I have found that it does a great job of breaking down the debris into a massively reduced pile. I have found that a standard bucket will fit at the shoot and collect the chippings nicely. Dry branches go through pretty easily, wet ones a bit more slowly. The massively long grape vines will shred in this machine but I do have to stop it periodically to clear out stringing debris that wraps around the center bold on the steel plate that spins and holds the blades. Larger branches approaching the limit size can jam the blades and typically have to be chipped in short bursts to keep the blades from slowing too much and jamming. Gloves are a must. I have gotten blisters holding and feeding branches through the hopper. Safety glasses too as there is always a risk of debris flying. As for safety, this thing is great. There are multiple safety devices and they all work. The thermobreaker will trip if the device jams. There are rubber flaps on the top of the hopper to keep debris from launching out the top, and they work well for small debris. The lockout on the switch works just fine but I never use it. There is also a safety catch on the upper clamshell of the hopper which works very well. The retaining screw for the upper clamshell does take a lot of turns to remove so avoiding jams tends to be a priority for me as I hate having to open that part while working. I always open it at the end to clear it.Now there is one major design defect that resulted in the four star rating. The power switch is not adequately sealed to prevent dust and debris building up in the switch. Once this happens it will interfere with the device turning on. I ended up replacing the switch with a sealed boat switch of the same voltage and amperage specifications. This did require creating a mounting plate (I used some lucite I had around) and filed out the housing to accommodate the new switch. Bolted it in and this works even better than before and now has a light thanks to the aftermarket switch. While this was a bit of work the long term benefits are definitely there. Replacing these switches only costs about $2.50. Replacing the thermobreaker is only about $5 for the part.Overall a great chipper and easy enough to maintain and use.

This is a REALLY Good product
I went back and forth about whether to get a robust residential wood chipper ranging from $700 to $1000 or whether to get a much cheaper one with less capacity. It would be great to have one that can handle a 3 inch diameter branch. But the truth is that's pretty uncommon. If a branch is that big I can chainsaw it into bolts and use it for firewood. From a recommendation site I finally decided to get this much lighter powered machine which is supposed to handle branches up to 1 inch diameter. I've seen various reviews which say it conked out or didn't work right. I've had none of those problems. My main reason for writing this review is that it does what it says it does VERY WELL. It's small and light. You can move it around on its wheels or it's light enough to carry over your shoulder. If a branch is small enough to get through the one inch opening it will churn through it no problem. Occasional jams go with the territory. But after processing a lot of branches I think I've had that happen once. I popped it open, removed the branch and was good to go.I was particularly impressed after one big branch and all its secondary branches came down in a recent storm. This isn't really what the SunJoe is designed for. But I used my Sawzall but break it up into small pieces. The primary branch was like 5 inches in diameter. So that won't work. But the great majority of the recent were an inch or under. I did it over two days and it chipped through every one no problem and never overheated or jammed. A bigger machine would have made the job go quicker. But not dramatically. And I found it kind of stunning this machine held up so well and processed so efficiently for a job that most people would have hired a tree company to come out and process.Basically it greatly outperformed my expectations and what I think would be reasonable expectations. Just very high quality. Two additional points. If you put branches with a lot of leaves on them those leaves don't get broken down that much. But to be fair, that's not what the machine is for. Just something to keep in mind. Also, it comes with a paddle to push things into the jaws. It's attached to the machine with a lanyard or small tether. It's quite risky to have any kind of string or rope in the mix with a machine that sucks things into it. So I'd recommend being careful using the paddle or better yet just removed the lanyard and avoid the chance of any mishaps.Again, I felt I was flying blind purchasing a wood chipper with so many contradictory reviews and so many accounts of horror stories where a pricey machine just dies after a few uses. My experience is very different. This is a surprisingly robust and unstoppable machine for such a low price or really for any price. It's not going to chip branches over 1 inch diameter. But at 1 inch and below it's great.

Works as it should
The product arrived quickly and in good condition. I used it to grind up wildflower stalks and small sticks, some of which I used for composting. Sometimes it is a little difficult to insert a bundle of stems, leaves, and/or sticks. But if one does not oversize the bundles then it works fine. I am happy with its performance, and it served my needs well. It is a good product for a reasonable price.

Great residential wood chipper!
Got this on sale for $135 and couldn't be happier with it! Just finished chewing through a pile of branches and brush6 feet high and 15 feet in diameter with it. Mixture of green and seasoned branches. The description says it will take branches up to 1.5 inches thick but that is a very relative number. It depends alot on the type of wood. I kept mine to no more than 1 or maybe 1 1/4 inch at max and had no major issues besides a jam or two, which were my fault. That being said, the entire front opens easily with one large thumb screw for clearing jams with ease. The machine has a kill switch on the screw as well so you can risk turning it on while its opened up. If the thumb screw is loose, or out, it wont turn on.A BIT of pre processing if large branches is required sometimes, but nothing major. Just keep some bush shears nearby. No biggie.15 amp motor is powerful but be sure to use the appropriate gauge extension cord (very important unless you want to burn up the motor in short order!). The required gauge extension cord for the distance you require is printed right on a warning card on the power cord. Easy peasy. Motor is kinda loud, but not terrible. Its about the same noise as a shop-vac when idling.I bagged my chips for disposal but if you plan on using the mulch in decorative gardens I would recommend that you process the material a bit extra before hand. If you feed in twigs less than 1/4 inch thick they won’t chip per se, they will just shred into smaller twigs about 4 to 6 inches long. Fine for disposal purposes but maybe kinda unsightly in a decorative garden? Stick to sticks about 1/2 of an inch to 1 1/4 inches thick if you want nice, consistent looking mulch.TLDR; Great residential wood chipper for garden and property trimming. Great value inmy opinion. And yes, I would still say that even if I had to pay full price!

Bueno para nada
Aparentemente, solo carne fresca pero sin ramas no tiene sentido.

Good light duty chipper
I used this product to chip several piles of brush on my property. The key to using this chipper is to go slow and be patient. It will get the job done and produce some useful mulch, but the small intake and limited power will slow you down a lot. Overall, I recommend the product as an affordable and good quality tool to add to your tool shed. The inch and a half rating for branches is a bit generous. It handles 1 inch branchs well. Anything bigger than that and it will struggle. The best part about this little chipper is the fine mulch that it creates. Larger chippers will handle a lot more capacity but won't produce the fine chopped mulch that I use for gardening.

Does the work for small yard jobs.
I have used this quite a few times now for small fallen branches and twigs I would previously have hauled off to the dump. I use a standard 15amp 50ft heavy duty outdoor extension cord that I also use on my electric lawnmower. Soft wood branches it does the 1 to 1.5 inch easily. Hard wood, not so much and slower. The key is to go slow and let the machine draw the wood in and not shove it. If you put whole branches in it will go slow when you get too many ends with little twigs. Leaves really slow it down. I use the plunger at the end for the handfuls of twigs and any leaves on a branch. It also does a really great job mulching up green stuff like tall weeds and corn stalks. The mulch produced is really fine compared to wood chips you'd buy at a store. It is generally even and uniform in size though I found the machine would very occasionally strip off a long piece of bark that would come out like a foot long string. It's noisy and if there is a kink or bend in the branch, it needs to be manipulated/turned as it goes in and that can sometimes reset in a twist and throw stuff back as it does. I highly recommend hearing protection, heavy duty work gloves, and eye protection unless you're a lot tougher than me. It is also light and very easy to move around so I can tip it and roll it on the big wheels to where the job is in the yard and then roll it back into the garage when I'm done. Since I have plenty of uses for mulch in the garden, I prefer this to hauling the yard stuff off to the dump and buying mulch. As long as you keep in mind this is a light duty mulcher you'll get along fine with it.
