Great intro to brain science for young people
This book finds the sweet spot of young people's interest in science, presented in a fun and visually entertaining way. This is not a book for little kids, though they can certainly be read to, enjoy all the bold images, and learn about the brain. I think the best audience starts around 8 or 9 and extends into the teens, and of course adults who enjoy this kind of presentation, usually in tandem with sharing it with a young person. Dr. Borel clearly knows her material, and she has found a most interesting way to present it. More than focusing on the hippocampus, Dr. Borel teaches about the whole brain and how it shapes who we are, how we learn, and most of all how we remember. I bought it for a young teen, but I found myself reading it twice before I even gave it to her. I highly recommend this easy introduction to that part of ourselves that matters so much. I hope she follows up with more books about the human body, or even science in general. I went over and looked at her blog, and I was most impressed by her desire to interest young people in medical science. This book is a great first step.
