Out on the Ice: Out in College, Book 5

Fave book of the series!
***Update*** Nov. 30, 2020Just reread this book after rereading “Out in Spring.” This one is still my fave of the series. Sky has so much more depth than we could possibly guess by his villainous portrayal in Christian and Max’s stories. Sky is by no means an innocent victim in regards to Christian and Max (Christian could be considered and innocent victim of the situation but Max was definitely a participant in the breakdown of his and Sky’s relationship), however, Sky’s actions and motivations make so much sense after hearing his story. His family’s treatment toward him now and as a child would break even the strongest person. Colby is the perfect person to support him. Also, Colby’s stepdad, Harry, is precious. Definitely worth a 2nd read.***Original review***This is my favorite of the series (2nd place is Elliot’s story). After reading this I am almost angry on Sky’s behalf for the way he was portrayed by Max and Christian in earlier books. Good thing they are fictional characters. :) Both of the MCs have depth and substance. Loved it!

Life’s not so messy when you’ve got someone by your side
Colby and Sky are an adorable couple. Both are living complicated messy lives that sometimes seem too much for them. What I love about this story is that when these guys are together their messy becomes easier to manage. I love that they are a team. The relationship is so organic. Colby is just figuring out he’s bi, but it’s written in a way that seems genuine. I’ve read stories where the characters has been “straight” his whole life and boom ends up in bed with a guy no muss no fuss. Colby freaks out... accepts it fairly quickly, but still has doubt and fear and worry. Sky knows he’s gay but isn’t out and has those same feelings of doubt. I like the communication between them, their chemistry is H-O-T but they are relatable which is a huge plus. This was a fun read - hockey, hot guys and HEA.

Hockey & Hotness
Gah! I’m still feeling swoony over Sky and Colby’s story! While their story stands alone, we did meet Sky in Out In The Field. Sky redeemed himself in a big way for me in this story and now I just want to squeeze him. I loved Colby from the start and the chemistry between him and Sky was super hot. I totally felt Colby’s indecisiveness coming off the page as he debated coming out. His talk with his step-dad just grabbed me in all the feels. I fell a little bit for Harry after that! If you love a good redemption story, with bi-awakening, first times, some laughs, super hot sexy times, and a step-dad who is all sunshine and rainbows this is your read! I absolutely loved it, and it makes me want to go back in for a re-read of this fun and sexy college sports series.

Hockey meets Baseball
I love this series and each couple is better than the last and I have to say Colby and Sky are my most favorite and in great competition with Christian and Rory.I loved Colby, his hotheadedness, his honesty, his no filter and blubbing mouth and I loved Sky too and how he really was, his true self, through Colby's eyes since Sky wasn't a character easy to like from Max and even Christian's books. This was an incredible read and such a punch to the heart and an emotional moment when Sky (view spoiler) that I was actually crying and even know thinking about the scene made my heart squeeze!!Thank you Lane for another incredible installation in this amazing series!!

Gotta love an athlete who discovers he’s attracted to a man!
My fav mm romance themes are anything sports related & especially when one or both men are just discovering they’re attracted to men. Or the classic closeted jock falls in love trope. 😁 So you take those themes & add the fabulous storytelling of Lane Hayes and you have an amazing series full of wonderful MCs, extremely well written sexy times & the sweetest love stories! This book had me hooked from Colby’s first confused attraction to the oh so handsome Sky & I couldn’t put it down. They made a great couple & kept me invested till the end. If any of these tropes interest you, I highly recommend you read this series! Or just read this series because it’s well written by a wonderful author! You choose! ☺️ I’m happily awaiting the next book(with sexy volleyball players!😍)!

Great love story
Colby & Sky’s love story as heart breaking at times but so rewarding to read all the way through. My heart broke at time for challenges and hurdles these two faced while trying to figure out their love for oneanother. Sky’s family wants nothing to do with him. He is lost. He bumps in Colby, strong, sure of himself hockey player, both guys in a summer school class together. They go grab lunch after a misunderstanding and Colby starts feeling things he never thought he would. The more time the two guys spend hanging out, the more they realize they are each other’s comforts. This was a beautiful love story. That made me laugh, cry and fall in love with Colby & Sky’s story.

Can’t Get Enough
I love how Lane develops her characters and story lines. Colby and Sky were captivating and it only got better the deeper into the story I got. Normally I’m more into the rock & roll M/M stories but took a chance on these after reading her two rock themed books. I wasn’t disappointed. This was a great read and now the hard part comes on deciding which one to get next. On,y reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is I’m not a big sports guy, rock & roll is my arena.

5 Stars
Out on the Ice by Lane Hayes was what I needed to escape everything happening in the world today.-Two college sports players, though, the main focus is hockey.--The story is told strictly from Colby's POV, but we can get to know Sky's story and growth from his interactions with Colby.-Bisexual discovery-Hurt/Comfort/Healing-It had an enemies to lovers/frenemies vibe at the start-OFY-Chemistry-Character development-Relationship development-The resolution scene was adorable. ♥This book was emotionally satisfying, and it had the perfect amount of angst. This may just be my favorite of the series. Colby and Sky's background stories pulled at my heartstrings and watching them grow as people made me happy.Highly recommend it.

Loved this. Le sigh.
This book was simply perfect. The love story between Colby and Sky (although Sky had been a knob in previous books), was utterly beautiful. I've gotta say I really liked Sky (you doubters, I knew he'd be redeemable!), in previous stories, but I completely fell in love with him in this book. Through Colby we see a side to Sky that he never shows to anyone else. Colby falls heavily, and little did he know that Sky feels the same way, or that their lives are going to change forever. But, as we know, true love never runs smoothly, and when they agree to keep their blossoming romance a secret, you know there's going to be trouble ahead.Ms Hayes' characters are always so real and well rounded that you feel like these are people you know in real life. That you are reading a story about your friends, and that you genuinely care what happens to them. You get this feeling, not just with the two main characters but with all the characters in the story. She writes beautiful heartwarming stories which will have you smiling throughout, whether that's smiling at the gorgeous heroes, the gorgeous love stories or the brilliant dialogue. It definitely has that feel good factor that will have you turning page after page. With Out On the Ice, she has done it again, with a brilliant story I absolutely devoured. I absolutely love this series. I so highly recommend it.

Wonderful redemption
You can read this without having read the others, but it does make Colby and Sky's journey more satisfying if you have. As always funny, heartfelt, emotional and believable; this story is about finding yourself by finding the one who helps you be that person. Loved it.
