Great book!
This book came to me in perfect condition. It was a great read for my class in Seminary. I recommend even reading it in your spare time if you're not attending classes. The title really does speak for what the content of the book is..for those who are interested in theology and/or history..give this a read!

Eyes Opened
Though I've studied Scriptures for many years Carter's book helped me historically place the Bible in the world in which the stories were written, and thus changed my understanding of how I can read with deeper appreciation for and understanding of the biblical text. For any serious Bible student this fairly short work will challenge your thinking about the Bible, and about what you believe about the story of the Bible. Well worth the reading, and the challenges.

The Context of the Old New Testament
A great concise look at the origins of the New Testament. Very helpful in an era when the Bible is used to justify all manner of prejudice.

Which events?
So, one can quibble with which events Carter does and does not choose, but one cannot quibble with Carter's engaging introduction to the history of the New Testament world. This is good reading, even if you don't know much about history.

A short, but powerful, book
Easy to read. He explained these events like I had never read them before. It makes me want to pursue his other books.

Really Insightful
I bought this book for class but honestly, it's soo good, and insightful. I would recommend it for non academic reading. It helped me understand the new testament in a whole new way.
