I wanted this to be my favorite book
This was on the verge of being my most favorite book of all time . It was amazing defined a page turner . I couldn’t stop until I finished and I was ready to read it all over again until I got near the ending. Honestly the last parts near the ending ruined the whole book . It just didn’t fit with the vibe that was already going . Hannah showing being pregnant was just an unnecessary plot/angst. It just was not needed they had come so fawns that just threw everything off . Honestly I hate when authors wait to the very end of the book to start some kind of drama and cause the copilot to split or nearly split it’s just unnecessary. Furthermore ending it with the back and forth emails felt that the ending was rushed. The ending felt incomplete. All in all love the story just hated the ending

Great Read!
Well-written! I loved the fact that the two main characters didn’t play games with each other. Both were strong individuals that really stood up for the other!

Very sweet and romantic. It was a rough start for me. I couldn’t understand why he was so mean to her at first. But it quickly grew on me. Read book in a matter of hours

Adored this story, a great read from JJ McAvoy
That Thing Between Eli & Gwen by JJ McAvoy4 stars!!“…and when they ran off, all that was left was Guinevere and Eli, les miserables.”I have to admit, I wasn’t going to read this book, I vowed not to read this author again because of the poor editing and proof reading, but a friend said it was really good and the editing much better, so I dived in. While I have to agree and the editing is much much better than previous books there is still an issue, but not too much that it detracted from my enjoyment of the story itself, which I absolutely loved, in fact adored. This was one of those books that I couldn’t put down, the story of Eli and Gwen is something that films are made from and I was totally captivated from the first till last word. I will however state that there was one thing in particular that happened that I personally felt was unnecessary and was just added for angst sake. It is a plot device that has been done time and time again and in this case for me just didn’t work, however, the way it was dealt with was refreshing and was handled well by the characters in particular. So, my initial annoyance and sick feeling was fairly quickly abated.“People are sometimes unlucky in love, but I’d rather be unlucky a dozen more times than close myself off and never have the chance to have that with someone.”As the synopsis states, at Eli’s wedding his bride runs off with Gwen’s fiancé and this is where this book starts. Eli takes it really badly, as does Gwen and when their paths keep crossing at the most inopportune moments it seems fate keeps pushing them together. While seeing the other brings back the worst memories, they do have that heart break in common and soon these two find themselves talking and talking and talking. They talk about their exes, they talk about their work, they just talk about everything. Eli and Gwen become firm friends, something that neither of them ever thought would happen.“One minute you were just that other woman who got hurt too, and then you were Guinevere. Funny, weird, talented, beautiful Guinevere, and I’m thinking about how you smell like rain, and whether you’ve eaten. I don’t know how it happened, all I know is that I’m thinking about you, and not just like a friend.”Eli and Gwen are total opposites. Eli is a neurosurgeon and Gwen is an artist, both at the top of their fields. You have Eli who is totally academic, stoic and to be honest a bit of a jerk in the first instance. His pride has been battered and he has taken it hard. Gwen is a carefree spirit, whimsical and has her own sense of style, but she is beautiful on the inside and out. These two opposites despise each other in the beginning and Eli’s attitude does nothing to diffuse the situation either, but as they keep bumping into one another, the frostiness melts a little each time.“Does this look like the set of Grey’s Anatomy to you?”I adored the banter between these two and the dialogue is my favourite part of this book. As battle lines are drawn and slowly wiped away JJ McAvoy really captures that hurt of the past and gradual build-up of their friendship and then to eventually more. The change in Eli with Gwen’s friendship was fantastic to read about and finally we got to see the real Eli and he was totally adorable. I loved his internal battles as the “Gwenfactor” slowly took over his head and his heart and for him this was an all knew experience.“I’m an idiot. I had punched below the belt, and she had punched back.”The chemistry between Eli and Gwen was fantastic and the slow build only intensified your connection to them. The character connection was on point and the emotional side really got me in the heart and head. I adored this book, and this could have easily been a five star read for me were it not for the editing and that one plot device that literally made me feel sick.“You are my Guinevere; Gwen is for everyone else.”While “that day” was perceived as the worst day of their lives it actually turned out to be the turning point for both of them. They both had a lucky escape and they literally made the most of it. Fate moves in mysterious ways and fate gave these two the best gift ever…each other.

That Thing
Guinevere 'Gwen' Poe, also known as con artist (the lovely Eli gave her that name) and Dr. Eli Davenport met in unusual circumstances. Gwen, as she says in the beginning, should of known that that day was going to be her worst day. There were small hints that she ignored during the moment, but the big one was win her fiance, Bash, called out the brides name and they ran away with each other. To be honest, whenever it's asked if someone objects the union, I pictured it just like this.Gwen and Eli didn't start off as friends, they hated each other, all because of Eli's personality. If he wasn't such a jerk I think they would've gotten together a little sooner, but I love the way this was played out. I couldn't picture how the author was going to get them together just because of their hate towards each other. In high school do you remember writing notes to your best friend? To me this read like one, but in a good way. Okay more like a letter from your best friend you haven't seen a while and she writes you an email explaining what had happened to her recently. So while reading this you feel like her best friend, saying the things a best friend will say when she meets an ass, then saying she's stupid for giving him a chance. Then rooting for the couple. I felt like I wanted to call her up after that ending and ask her what the hell and what's going on.Wow such a long explanation on how I feel about this book.Gwen and Eli is my OTP. My Everything. I can't picture them with anyone else. Like, uhhhhh. So many feelings for them and I'm glad they didn't change who they were to be with the person. They stayed true to themselves and I love that. This was such a refreshing read for me, granted I never read this type of book before, but still. This was a slow burn, no instalove. I wish I can put into words on how much I love this book. This author, who is slowing becoming one of my favorite authors. Her writing is amazingly beautiful.I feel like I can't give this a proper review because all I want to do is shove this book in your face and tell you to read it. Drop whatever is that you're reading and read this awesome book and get all in your feels. This one of those books that I want all forms of this book. So whenever this comes out in print I'm buying it and loving it. May even take a selfie with it. My love for this book has no bounds.Oh and before I end this, I only had one small problem with it and it was the passage of time, I couldn't really pin point how much time has passed since the wedding incident. So in conclusion what I have to say is read this book!!

J.J McAvoy is becoming a quick favorite author!
That moment in movies and TV shows someone interrupts a wedding to proclaim their undying for the bride or the groom are always the most swoon worthy moments. We as the audience tend to be swept up in the moment and never think about the person left behindThat Thing Between Eli and Gwen actually focuses on two people that get left behind and we get to see their journey through that. Eli and Gwen couldn't be more different and it's so interesting to see how such different people could have dated people that would then cheat together.Even though Eli and Gwen are victims of their fiances leaving them, McAvoy never makes them feel like victims. Both characters are willing to move on from their public embarrassment and continue to live their lives in a way that fulfills them... eventually. However, the one thing that they absolutely refuse to enjoy is each other's company. Their conversation was so funny, it was fully of banter and witty and really helped us to connect to the characters, especially as they started to realise that maybe they weren't each other's enemies.I LOVED Melody Giovanni from Ruthless People, but I think we all know she's a tiiiiiny bit over the top so I think that Gwen is officially jointly my favourite female character as written by J.J. McAvoy. Gwen was confident in herself, dedicated to her career and has a good relationship with her parents, she's pretty much perfect and I love it. It never feels like she's a Mary Sue or anything equally irritating, she's just Gwen and she happens to be near perfect.Eli is a bit of a dick, but it works for him tbh. You can definitely see why his character would be well paired with Gwen as she allows him to be less of a Type A and relax a little. That Thing Between Eli & Gwen is adorable and it's great to see that J.J. McAvoy is so capable of writing multiple genres and make us fall in love.Recommend to: fans of New Adult, fans of romanceRating: 4 starsMore reviews at: aishareadsbooks.blogspot.co.uk

Cute and quirky tale: SPOILER ALERT
I really love how well this author writes and wish she was as prolific as some of the other romance authors I tend to read. I enjoyed Eli and Gwen’s story, and had in fact, been eyeing it for a while but just never got round to reading it.While I enjoyed the chemistry and natural banter between Eli and Gwen, I found a few things really irksome. First off, I felt Ms McAvoy went to great pains to keep Gwen’s race under wraps like some big secret. A lot of people like me will have picked up this book because they believed it was a BWWM romance story. So, nothing irks me more than a story that skirts around race.Gwen’s dad was just a tad TOO overbearing and came off as extremely RUDE. I just couldn’t take to him at all, and maybe Gwen should have had a sterner word with him. Finally, I didn’t like how the end felt very rushed and quickly cobbled together. I feel Ms McAvoy basically used a long trail of emails between Eli and Gwen as a filler to conclude the story. That, coupled with the fact that Hanna came back baby in tow, felt to me like a very underwhelming, anti-climatic HEA, if we can even call it that. Were it not for those few things, this book for me could have easily been what I like to call a 5+ star rated read.

Excellent read
Loves this story and the main characters. It has humour, great sex and great storyline. Only reason for 4* was I did and didn’t like the ending.

Eli + Gwen
