We all have a role to play in solving this crisis
Ms. Macy gets it. We all (yes, YOU too!), have a role to play in addressing this crisis of addiction in America. Whether you have the ability to read this book and pass along what you've read and learned, or perhaps you have some pull in your community- and can help barrier change policies or funding streams that allow for equitable access to care and treatment, maybe set up transportation volunteers to get folks to court or treatment. Maybe you work directly with individuals with substance use disorder and can help train staff and your community on cultural humility around SUD and how to reduce stigma and create safe space. This book provide examples of real life helpers who are walking in their callings to serve those society has deemed unworthy, unlovable, and untouchable. We all can do something to help. I hope this book inspires you to explore your options and turn them into action. Acta Non Verba!

A good follow up, with some important omissions
A great follow up to Dopesick. Certainly a convincing case for harm reduction. As a healthcare worker, I was slightly irked by the authors treatment of those dealing with addiction on the front lines, specifically ER employees. To be described they way they are without the attention to what impact the opioid epidemic has had on them is a glaring ommison. The author advocates for unconditional compassion for those with SUD, but does not extend that some courtesy to those who are involved in the daily struggle of dealing with those in the throes of addiction who frequently perpetuate the verbal and physical abuse of healthcare employees who do not feed their addiction when they demand it.

We need urgent care for the Addicted
Tess Henry said that while she was slowly losing her battle to addiction. Beth Macy chronicles some steps that have occurred since, that Tess could only dream about. This book provides a roadmap to what needs to be done and will help make Tess’s dream a reality one day BUT we’re not there yet! Interwoven with the frontline hero stories she takes you behind the scenes of the Purdue Pharma bankruptcy SCAM.

Love the integrity of the Author
The media could not be loaded. Based on my experience and expectations I was so pleased with the book and her work and research on Addiction in this Country . I got a chance to hear her speak in Baltimore! She is a Shero of mine.

SPARE ME THE PARTISAN LECTURE
Beth Macy spent 332 pages blaming everyone but the addicts for their lot in life. Not surprisingly, she puts most of the post-Perdue blame on conservatives while lecturing that harm reduction, not personal accountability, is the only way to fix this situation. I felt like I was sitting in the principal’s office getting scolded for something I didn’t do. It’s not her fault as she did what her and everyone else in the mainstream, corporate media does best: project blame onto others. Don’t waste your time on this book. Fentanyl, Inc is a far better book that offers a much more subjective look at opioid problem.

A group d of so view of the Opioid Crisis
A look at people on the front lines dealing with those addicted to opioids. This book gave me nightmares but was a fascinating read.
