Easy Asian Noodles

Delivers!
I have only made three of the dishes from this book so far, but each one I've cooked would have easily been worth its price. I whipped up a batch of "Vietnamese Quick Chicken Pho" and enjoyed this light and perky version of a classic Vietnam favorite. No, it was not the interstellar barritone beef broth version you might get from a place which specializes in simmering it for many hours, but it went together fast and had a bright balanced flavor with some deep notes which belied its speedy construction. I next woked up a batch of "Ants Climbing A Tree"-the bean thread staple from China with bits of pork which evoke its unusual name. I don't care what it's called; I call it tasty. Finally, I built the "Cold Sesame Noodles, Sichuan Style" which produced a deep nutty flavor rolling over my taste buds hinting ginger, scallion, garlic, pepper heat, and creaminess from the tahini-fascinating. As a home cook, I see many recipes to be a relationship where time and effort produce better taste. I am amazed at the profoundly delicious tastes of these dishes for such little time and effort. I've only actually tried three so far, but if this keeps up, I'm in trouble-the good kind!

Great noodles
I have cooked three recipes so far out of this book, and they have all been delicious and easy to prepare. I am new to Asian cooking, and Chen provides a very useful glossary of ingredients at the beginning of the book. It is also organized in convenient sections to find noodle recipes suitable for the time of year such as soups and cold noodles. I would advise new cooks to read through the recipes before going grocery shopping to be sure that you get the ingredients she call for. There is a large range of ingredients, but they are easy to find in an Asian market.

My husband loves this book!
I bought this as a gift for my husband who likes to make Asian noodles every Thursday night after working late. He says the recipes are easy to follow and the dishes are full of nuanced flavors. He has his couple of favorites now, after using the book for a few years, and can usually put them together in about 20 minutes. Occasionally, he'll branch out if he has more time and I've picked up some extra ingredients for a new dish.

Depends upon what you mean by easy!
I was disappointed to see that most of the dishes require many more ingredients than my modest pantry currently holds -- several called for more than 20 ingredients, which is not my idea of "easy" cooking. However, there are many positive aspects of this book, including detailed information on the types of Asian noodles, cooking tools, and ingredients. There are many beautiful full-page color photographs so you can see what the dish should look like when served. In my opinion this is a book more for an intermediate home cook who may already have many of the ingredients and tools, rather than for a beginner in either cooking in general or preparing Asian food.

Not for novices but tasty!
This is a great noodle book, and would be better if it didn't assume that I know how to cook rice noodles. Bought b/c we are on an easy-to-swallow diet and this is really a valuable resource. Of course, the recipes don't have many calories, but they are yummy. Have made 2-3 of them and enjoyed eating the results!

I like Noodles!!!!
If you like to eat noodles this book is must own. I did not know there was so many varies of noodles. This book show the different varies, how to cook, and where to buy noodles. There are plenty of pictures of most recipes. The hardest thing about some of the recipe is finding some the ingredients (I live in the middle of nowhere). This is an excellent book to own if you like Noodles.

Not easy asian noodles.
Not easy. I'm not a cook so I was looking for some recipes that I might actually be able to use, but this didn't work for me. They looked and sounded delicious - and the book is a great size and was well put together. But if you're buying this for someone that doesn't really know what they're doing, or would have trouble finding all the different ingredients (because each recipe has a lot), go with something else.
