2015 SONY BDP-S1700 Multizone All Region Code Free DVD Blu ray Player

EDIT: Further to the below, for the first time I tried to use this for a USA region blu ray and it will not play it regardless of what buttons are pressed, as specified on the photocopied scrap of paper it came with. It simply says region mismatch and nothing can be done. Garbage, false advertising. I can't even get a refund because it's too late to return it. I made the mistake of buying a Sony TV recently too, and that was also garbage. No Sony, ever again.Why am I charged a 150% mark-up for the privilege of playing any region blu-rays when the cost to the manufacturer is a big, fat zero (the difference in cost between this - £150 - and the equivalent region locked player is almost £80). No, I don't know either. This practice being common across the industry so I have little choice other than to have two players, one for Region B and one for Region A (this would actually work out 25% cheaper than buying this one but the logistics are a pain, i.e. only one HDMI on the TV)But let's look on the bright side. It plays blu-rays and DVDs with at least the same quality output as a £35 machine from Tesco, so that's a big plus, as is its feature list, which almost matches my 2005 DVD player. Another whoopee moment was when I discovered I was able to connect it to the internet using wired connection only, a technology only around 15 years out of date. As for silly little things like wanting it to resume play where you left off, pah, who needs such things in the 21st century?

I've owned this machine for several months now and i'm really happy with its compact size, quality build and quiet running; the main reason I chose this particular model though, was it's A,B,C Blu-ray multi-region capability (i.e. North American region locked Blu-rays), which it does and plays effortlessly. My only gripe with the Sony BDP-S1500, is that it has a wired internet connection only (no WI-FI, SEE UPDATE BELOW), that being said, its still worth 5 review stars every time.*UPDATE* - 13/04/2017 Purchased a TP-LINK AV600 Powerline WI-FI kit for this blu-ray player to give it WI-FI capability - cost around £40 and does what is says on the tin.Why on earth are some DVDs and Blu-rays locked down to only play in certain regions in the first place?, It just doesn't make any sense.

This Region free Blu Ray & Dvd player is great, i can now play every blu ray and dvd around the world.just to let you know you can just put in any dvd in the player and it will work straight away. but for blu ray you have to press the Yellow Button for Region A, Blue for Region B and Red for Region C.plus you have to make sure there is no disc inside and the the tray has to be closed before changing the region. its really easy to change the region if you just follow my easy instructions. Overall this is great i give it 10 out of 10

Extremely easy to use

This is a perfect example of false advertising, unless it's something really wrong with my player. It says on the box it's all regions. Well, it's not. My is locked on region A, which makes a really big problem, since most of my BD's are locked on region B. In it's defence, it's neat and small, and I mostly use it for DVD's and Netflix. Bot not even the manual says how to to switch regions, so my suspicion is a)it's not regionfree or b)it's something wrong with it.

Great purchase. Now I can play multi region dvds. And not have any restrictions.

Just what I needed. I had that awesome anime blue ray that is locked at region A and I couldn't play it on any of my PlayStation devices because they all locked on region B, but with this device I can play and watch anything. Nothing can stops me now!
