When I feel a canker sore coming on, then I start taking these to stop it. As a side note, it is important to know that these are useful for canker sores and NOT cold sores. Cold sores are caused by a virus for which this vitamin will not help. Canker sores, however, are the non contagious and painful sores that you sometimes get inside your mouth or tongue. At the very first sign of a sore, I start taking 2 of these a day and they never ever progress into the full sores that are so painful that it hurts to even chew. I suppose you could take one a day as that is the recommended dosage. Choose your own dosage at your own risk.
