Take the time to tune them.
I'm more of an engineer than a wood worker & had never owned a plane before, but I realised that a project I was undertaking would be made easier with the use of one. I chose these because they seemed a reasonably priced set, decent quality but not too sophisticated for my limited skills. The wooden storage box looked to be a nice additional touch, too. They arrived well packaged, but the two planes had been placed in the wooden box the wrong way & it had forced some of the joints apart. Before I tried out the planes I decided to sort out the box- replacing the flimsy hinges & catch and repairing the loose joints. A bit sad, I suppose, but if you're going to have things right.... Turning attention to the planes, they are solid & well made, with knurled brass adjustment knobs. However, there's no way they could be used straight from the box, although I gather it's pretty much standard to expect to tune up a tool, particularly one in the lower price range, before use. It's easy enough to do & anyone buying a plane in the first place will likely have the aptitude to complete the job. These required stripping down, removing excess paint that was restricting adjustment, trueing up the sole plate on emery paper, sharpening the blade & reassembling with a light coat of oil & some beeswax on the sole. I followed a YouTube tutorial - there are many - and with a little patience had them in excellent shape. It was well worth the time & effort, and I enjoyed the process. Using the planes I found, even with no real experience, I was able to remove very satisfying, perfect thin curls of wood from the piece of timber I was working on. So, good value, solid tools that, at least for the occasional user, who doesn't mind a bit of tinkering, should serve you well.

So that is a disappointment, and can be corrected either by grinding blade ...
I have setup so far just 60. 1/2 inch block plane. biggest pain was that center hole for screw that holds down blade, is misaligned to center by 2 millimeters and thingy that should normally help to correct blade to side by side was pushing whole blade to side, and its as not possible to set blade straight to have an even cut. I have tried to correct it by gridding excess on the mouth of the block plane, but that didn't help so I end up throwing away that piece of metal that should help with straightening blade. After that I was able to setup blade correctly in the center without problems.Overall biggest problem I see is here and on the other one I just got No.5 , is that blade is not coming from the month evenly and one side is always lower, even if blade is perfectly square the block itself is not correctly aligned. So that is a disappointment, and can be corrected either by grinding blade in angle so one side is shorter than another, or do something with a block itself. I read that faithful are budget tools (even that for me are the most expensive hand tool I own) but I was hoping for more. With little work they can be aligned and will do the job, but nothing special over all, was expecting more precision.

All is not what it seems
When I tried to set up the planes I could not align the blades. On the Block plane the angle of the mechanism would not allow the blade to sit square with the bed and the side to side adjuster was so slack that there was no effective adjustment. On the low angle plane the adjuster pivot hole was so over size I could not make the side to side adjustment to set up the blade. The securing screw for the blade was so badly machined that they had two attempts at cutting the screw slot and neither of them were central to the screw head. The presentation package was very good but the quality of the goods inside were useless. Do not buy this item.

good things come in small packages.
Good little set of planes, once set up they are as good as planes that cost twice the price and with a little attention and care should last a life time.
