Russel Hobbs once again show where they do best with this very impressive microwave
After the dismal let down by Russel Hobbs, when I recently bought a carpet cleaner, had to return it and the replacement is also of poor standards, I gave Russel Hobbs the benefit of doubt. I was really hoping that the carpet cleaner was just a one off poorp quality product as Russel Hobbs have been reliable for me for a few decades. I am so happy that I did give them the benefit of doubt and I must have been correct in the carpet cleaner being a one off bad decision by them as I am very pleased with this Russel Hobbs microwave. This microwave is a replacement for my two year old Russel Hobbs as I wanted something a little more exciting than the other one. After removing this microwave from ther box, putting it on the worktop, plugging it in and switching on, I was very impressed with the looks. OK, so, looks may only be cosmetic and function is more important. That is what I usually believe so I tried it and was even more impressed. This microwave is nowhere near as noisy as my other Russel Hobbs, I couldn't even hear it when I momentarilly left the kitchen. I heard the ping when the food was cooked but sadly that is where Russel Hobbs have changed something that was useful. My other microwave pings when the timer runs down but also reminds me with pings every minute after, until I open the door and remove the food. This microwave doesn't use reminder pings so if one is distracted the food will go cold before it is remembered. I cannot reduce the score for this microwave because of the lack of reminder pings as creates low noise due to having no turntable and no plates rattling away. It is very impressive cosmetically and even more impressive when on and all the touch control light are activated. I highly recommend this product as once again Russel Hobbs have proven that they can produce top quality products at a reasonable price but they should stick to kettles, microwaves, toasters, irons etc. as that is what they do best and they should keep away from vaccuums and carpet washers as that is where I have lost faith in them. Buy this microwave and like myself, you will be impressed....

great microwave
Better than a turntable. Easier to get food out without the turntable plate getting stuck to the bottom. Easy to use. Neat, easy to clean. Very impressed with the manual. I have never seen one so basic, easy to read and understand. Not in small print.

The user interface could have done with a bit more thought
I was going to buy one, and then the price shot up to £150. I waited about a year I think for the price to come back down again to £129, then snapped it up.I really like the way it looks, the blue LED clock, the mirror finish - gorgeous.I love that there's no turntable, which makes it easier to clean, lids don't fall off, handles are always you left them, bigger things fit inside, etc.Sadly when it comes to the buttons, it was not designed by anyone who uses a microwave on a regular basis. If you want to put something in for a minute or two, that's fine you can press the start button for 30 second increments. If you want to do more than 5 minutes, that gets tedious. There are of course two enormous plus/minus buttons, but their primary purpose is to select an auto cook mode (that nobody I know ever uses). To use them to enter a time, you have to press the power button and then press start - not exactly intuitive. You can then hold down the plus/minus to get to the desired time.I think plus/minus should begin by setting minutes. Press start, you can then enter seconds, start again to commence cooking. All it needed was an "auto" button to select the auto mode for those that want it.If you are the type of person who uses auto mode on microwaves, this is the microwave for you.

An improvement on our previous Panasonic
This is a flatbed microwave which we wanted, and without grill, combo etc. It is only 800W but that is fine. We previously had a similar Panasonic flatbed 1000W but this is better. The Panasonic had a difficult door to close with a very strong spring latch which needed to be slammed and eventually it stopped working when the latch did not operate the door switch reliably. This Russell Hobbs closes with a finger. Also, it is in a dim utility room and the black LCD indicator was hard to read. The push buttons were also hard to distinguish. The Russell. Hobbs has a bright blue LED that is easy to read, the buttons are easier to distinguish, and it also has a great easy start system — just push the start button and it adds full power for 30 secs per push of the button. That is so good I wonder why others don’t do it.Overall, a good result and I am sorry we didn’t’t change it earlier. One other thing. The manual is actually intelligible and nicely produced so it’s legible.

Great stylish microwave
been using this for over a month now. Brilliant. Looks very smart and so far no greasy fingerprints on glass as you use the handle and never touch the glass. I was sceptical if a non-turntable microwave would work.....well it seems to, I always stir a couple of times during long cooking, but have had no disasters at all.... doesn't seem to have hot spots. The best thing about it is the quick one touch 30second cook button, each time you press it adds another 30sec.... very quick and easy. If you want a lower power setting it's a bit more of a faff: you have to press the power button at the top repeatedly to scroll down thro the available power ratings, then at the bottom press the select, then in the middle press the + button until your desired time is shown before finally the start button at the bottom again - I have had easier microwaves to set, but like I say the 30 second one touch button is used most of the time. Another really useful feature is the microwave can be used as a simple timer which I have found really handy - (only down side is when the timer is up it gives a few short bleeps and that's it, so if you are not tuned into listening for it you can miss it!)In summary I would highly recommend this, and it's good value for money.
