Almost as good as the Radio Series
This review is for the current (2017) ebook edition.A splendidly funny and silly book, quite a successful novelisation of the Radio Series.Note that the extracts from the archives come right at the end of Chapter 35, and are interesting, especially the fax from Douglas to the American script editor, explaining why some things shouldn't be changed. For some reason, they're not listed in the table of contents.

Crazy Loons!
Wow, this was a crazy looney toons book! I listened to this an audiobook as part of the Pink and Dizzy reading challenge, and I have to say I’m so glad I did it this way rather than reading the book. Stephen Fry is just brilliant; he does all the different voices just as he does through the Harry Potter books. Zaphod Beeblebrox sounded like Gilderoy Lockhart from ‘The Chambers of Secrets’; he did the same voice for these characters, so that was funny. There were so many genuine laugh-out-loud moments; I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did. My mind did wander a little in places, however, but this didn’t spoil the book, and I didn’t feel like I missed out on anything vital. The mind of Douglas Adams is certainly one to be admired with all the crazy, insane madness he came up with. It was just so out there! I can certainly see why this has become a classic. I now also understand the reference of the answer to the universe being 42! I had heard this many times before reading, so it was nice to finally put this into context.I’m very keen to read or listen to the follow-on books, however, they have been narrated by Martin Freeman, so I really hope he manages to do them as much justice as Stephen Fry did.

Hyperspeed straight to Red Dwarf!
Didn't enjoy this book at all. Two stars for the original concept only. The writing style and language seems forced and contrived which only serves to override any empathy that the reader may have had for the characters. This equates to a lack of reliability and I found I just didnt care what happened to them the further I read on. The humour has dated badly and it appears to be written for teenagers who want to learn how to read lengthly/ pointless made up words in a desparate attempt to sound more intelligent. Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick to Red Dwarf!

Don't leave Amazon without it!
About as brilliant as British satire gets. Douglas Adams remains one of my all-time favourite authors. His boundless creativity and imagination is a true inspiration for me. Especially as I am an author myself! The book remains the best version of the tale. The BBC Radio show and the 2005 movie are good, but the book is the original (and best) voice.

Yeah, I'm not the intended audience for this book, with a male dominanted cast in space I was never going to be able to relate.I'd heard great things but I couldn't get into it, my mind kept drifting, i looked for the humor but couldn't find it (was it where the British guy wanted a cup of tea on a spaceship?).It just didn't hold my attention im afraid which is a shame as its such a cult classic.

Fairly entertaining!
Perhaps I'm rating this book only with three stars out of five only because of my age since I'm currently 36 and I believe I should have read this book when I was about 15 to 25 at the most so I could properly and fully appreciate it.Most of it sounded, in my head, like extremely well improvised, composed and delivered gibberish and not much more than that.To be absolutely fair, this might simply not be my type of humor, hence my not finding it truly funny or amusing, although there were about three to five at the most instances throughout the book that did instigate that LOL outburst. All in all it is a pretty decent read particularly for the ages around 20 or less, but, specifically with regards to all the hype about it, I personally cannot seem the reason behind it.

I watched the movie first and loved it so decided to read this
I watched the movie first and loved it so decided to read this. It starts off similar but greatly changes about halfway through. You get a different sense of the characters and what they're like; their relationships with eachother are different too. I am not used to the writing style of Mr Adams so I did reread some passages here and there to get a grasp of what it was trying to say. It is a book that makes you reflect a lot and think "what if" for a lot of situations. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am int he process of reading the next book in the series.

Just ok
I started reading this book last year and got about a quarter of the way through and gave up. I recently picked it back up again and decided I was in the mood to “give it another go”. This time I did enjoy it. I found it funny for the most part and semi-entertaining. The story didn’t really grip me but it wasn’t an altogether bad read. Somewhere in the middle for me which is why I gave it a middling 3 stars.

Probably the most Remarkable book ever to come out of the Great ublishing orporations of Ursa Minor
It was probably the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor – of which no Earthman had ever heard either"This book is one of a Kind, and should belong to self help category. It's absolutely accurate account of hitchhiking are improbably helpful.Although very few people are found to have understood how? But as long as you know, there are plenty of other planets for you to migrate too, where immigration policies are professionally viable.Hitchhiking is the best way to travel the universe unless you are unfortunate enough to live in reality. It will turn your brain inside out and will make its outside inside just to make sure you are able to scratch your head again! It is also, One of the greatest book ever written, which will give you the answer to the greatest question? The Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and Everything!I think, Not being a native English speaker I missed(unable to understand) some language based humour and punches, but overall I found it very amusing and sometimes hilarious!(80% funny, That's why 2 to the power of 276709 stars to one against, so ... "Whatever" - improbability factor equals four. Hence, 4 stars.)

Worth the money.!!!
First of all, this review is only about the product and not the content. The nearly definitive edition is a large hardcover omnibus with a beautiful cover. The only thing missing is a bad a** dust jacket.! The paper quality is the best among all the variants of the book ( paperbacks have really bad paper quality). The spine of the book is one of the best and will hold on for a really long time (probably till your grandchildren dont mess it up). So, in my opinion, this version is the best to have on your shelf. Totally worth the money.!

GENIAL !

Review for the hardcover edition (Random House)
I obviously luuvve the book itself! Had ordered an hardbound edition this Towel Day- to pamper myself. The edition itself is (mostly) lovely, and the typesetting is mindbogglingly pretty! But I found a chapter to be numbered wrongly (ch. 32 instead of ch. 35)! Has anyone else seen this issue?Makes me wonder if there're other issues with the book!

Expect the Unexpected but Don't Panic
The only book that I rated 5 🌟 so far. This masterpiece of Douglas Adams is thought provoking, wicked funny and sometimes out right Ludicrous. It talks about technological advancements, the meaning of life and then it says Earth is controlled by MICES. Yes you read that right.Read it, if you want a child like grin on your face. One of my favorites. can't recommend enough.

The Nearly Definitive Edition
If you somehow don't read it, buy it and read it. I'm just collecting the different prints of the same series this is a nice addition. It could've been even better with a jacket

Welcome to ZZ9 plural Z alpha
Reading this book 35 years after it was first born. This is one of the best and weirdest science fiction I ever read. There are places where you will have to read twice just to make sure you read correct eg. hyper-intelligent shade of the color blue or a planet where coincidence happens so much that people have left it.English used is pretty simple and is easy to understand and there's are stickers which you can stick on your laptop etc. All in all a must read

How many roads must a man walk down?
It is by far the most useful guide to have for any Interstellar Hitchhiker(whether a novice, adept, journeyman or expert). For anyone seeking the answer to The Life, Universe and Everything, think about 'How many roads must a man walk down'.After hearing so much about this book, and being one of those idiots who saw the movie before, I can say that I'm thoroughly satisfied and most definitely will finish this trilogy of five and then some more.

I was skeptical at first but it was well worth it. If you want to laugh don't think twice.
At first I was skeptical of reading this book but when I began reading it, I was like "what!?"And then I chuckled. And then I went "What!!?" again and then I laughed more. This kept on going till the end of the book. I felt sad when I realised I've reached the end.
