Q: Does the lock simply lock bottom drawer to the top drawer (enabling both to slide open) or is the lock secured against the cabinet ?

The lock secures both drawers to the cabinet. When unlocked both drawers can be pulled out independently but to prevent the danger of the drawer toppling when a loaded drawer is pulled out, the cabinet should be against the fixed securely to the wall (slots/holes in the are provided in the back for this purpose).

Q: Can I fit lever archer folders in the draws? and if yes how many?

I purchased some lever arch files A4 which are slightly too big.
