After an incredible comeback in 2016 that included a #2 charting compilation album, 300,000 catalogue sales, sold-out shows at the Royal Albert Hall and a headline slot at British Summer Time; Rhino looks to round out a hugely successful catalogue campaign with a new Complete Studio Collection the brings together all eight of Phil Collins’ albums for the first time. The set includes all eight studio albums from 1981’s ‘Face Value’ to 2010’s ‘Going Back’ - five of which were UK #1. This great value clamshell box features individual card wallets and the remastered music from last year’s re-issue campaign. UK Version

No plastic required. (For £15 buy it. Don't think twice.)
Each CD is within a thin but firm cardboard sleeve. All eight CDs are within a 2.5cm cardboard box which opens on a left side hinge. The box is beautifully finished in a smooth and soft matt finish, that has a feel similar to rubber. The music is a gift of a collection at this price of £15, for anyone who loves this guy's music. As long as you are not hunting for high-res or vinyl, this is the set to get. There is some brilliant stuff across these albums. (Hint, if you audition say one of the albums on Youtube, and think not sure. Audition again later. Often mood plays a part of what we think of music when.)Personally my music collection didn't feel right without these albums. Before I bought this CD set I could not put my finger on what was missing. Obviously this is not the whole story for me, as there are many albums I need including way more classical. However Take a Look at me Now by Phil Collins is an integral part. An integral part of any 'good' music collection, in my opinion. With reference to negative reviews over the remastering. Firstly those reviews are garbage. Like I saw a review that said the soul of the music was remastered out of the tracks. That is complete nonsense. Secondly I previously owned from, Face Value to Both Sides on vinyl. (That's the first five albums in the collection.) There is nothing untoward in the remastering; I have yet to find anything unusual. Thirdly, if you search for these albums on Youtube to audition them yourself, the first results are for the remastered versions. Meaning you can try them before buying , and put your mind at rest. Since the negative reviews about remastering made me nervous I tried out 'Hello, I must be Going', 'No Jacket', and 'But Seriously'. I was convinced all was fine after the first album I tried but I checked the other two.

Ace Value
I've been a massive Genesis fan for most of my life but had never really been that bothered about Phil's solo career - I had a couple of albums but that was it. However, after being lucky enough to catch him live on what may be his final tour, I decided I needed to listen to more of his material. I paid £14 for this at the time of release, which already felt like a bargain, and at the time of writing this it's even cheaper.Face Value and No Jacket Required are probably the stand-out albums (and the most commercially successful), but with such an astonishingly diverse output there's stuff on every album to enjoy - take Hello I Must Be Going for example - while less coherent than its predecessor, every track is a gem - you expect the ballads (like the beautiful Don't Let Him Steal Your Heart Away), but with the help of the EWF horns Phil also turns out modern soul (I Cannot Believe Its True), jazz (The West Side), and even the odd atmospheric prog number that wouldn't sound out of place on a Genesis album (Do You Know, Do You Care?); all of course underpinned by his phenomenal drumming. While the 90s albums are less satisfying, they still have some nice moments; Dance Into The Light in particular points towards some of the African influences Collins used in his Tarzan soundtrack. The final(?) album, Going Back, is a respectful set of Motown covers, featuring many of the original backing musicians - hardly groundbreaking but an enjoyable labour of love nonetheless. The only minor criticism would be that a handful of his best known hits (e.g. Easy Lover; Against All Odds; Two Hearts) don't appear on any album - a round-up disc featuring these would have completed the set - but with the price this low, you can afford to treat yourself to The Singles as well.

Wheat & Chaff
When l was a teenager I bought the first three Phil Collins albums and then my musical interests wandered in new directions. It's great nostalgic indulgence revisiting this music after 20+ years. After ripping all 8 CDs onto my laptop I went through each album track by track and listened, and listened again. I ended up deleting about 50% of the tracks and consigned them to digital oblivion. That left me with around 40 top quality songs, many of which I had never heard before.Once you separate the wheat from the chaff this collection is worth every penny, especially at this price. Thanks for the memories Phil, and stay healthy🙏🏾

Do you really want all the albums, or just the hit singles?
If you've ever enjoyed any of Phil Collins hit singles (and there have been plenty), then this is a great value box set worthy of your consideration. I bought this set as it was cheaper than the 3 cd singles collection and obviously contains a lot more songs. I'm not a die hard Phil Collins fan, and having listened to these albums, it may have been better for me to stick to the hit singles as I suspect the albums won't get played as often. There are some great tracks, and some that are ok, but for someone like myself that is more familiar with his hits, I'm unlikely to be converted to listening to these as regularly as I would albums by other artists.

Feel the width AND the quality.
The only down side to these compilations is that the c.d.s come in card wallets, but what else can you expect for the price? Even if you've already got a complete catalogue, you might be tempted to buy this collection as insurance against losing your originals. Great value at 11 quid for 8 c.d.s. I haven't said anything about the musical content; Phil has been reviewed by many others on the Amazon site, so you can do a search if you feel the need. I was probably introduced to his solo, 'commercial' sound with "Can't Hurry Love" and I still think he sounds better than the Supremes, but I can also understand criticism where he comes away with tracks like "Like China" - a clear breach of good taste and one for whom the word "misogyny" was surely created.
