Journey Through Time

Magnificent.......
The album must rank as one of if not the best live releases of the decade..when I first saw the concert on YouTube...in black and white I immediately thought it should be made available in dvd form...thanks to Frontiers again 5 years later it not only got released in dvd form but accompanied with 3 cds that contain outstanding live performances by accomplished musicians...Steve Perry...Soto..Augeri and Pineda might not be there but Castronovo and Rolie are magnificent...Castronovo is incredible...playing drums and singing the Perry classics is no mean achievement....Rolie adds the special nostalgic touch and Schon provides a masterclass in guitar playing with Mendoza and Varn outstanding. The music covers the bands jazz funk/AOR/rock/blues catalogue from their early years to their arena filled days....the packaging and liner notes are excellent and again Frontiers have excelled.Sad that circumstances led to the performance but it is a fitting epitaph to those who lost their lives and property in the fire.I own a vast catalogue of material by many artists but I must state again that the release ranks up there with the very best.Sound and picture quality is outstanding.....dont delay get hold of a physical copy if you can and you will have a classic forever.....enjoy.

Brilliant old school Journey music
Journey were one of my favourite bands before and after Steve Perry joined. This triple cd represents the first 3 releases before SP and selected songs after he joined. It’s fantastic, particularly highlighting Neal Scon’s amazing guitar playing.

Awesome
A really top cd/dvd - 3 cd's and 1 dvd of the full concert. Lots of 'early' Journey tracks that you don't get to hear/see usually. A well produced album and great value for money. All set on a quite compact stage in San Francisco, but this creates a really great atmosphere. Near on 3hrs of top quality music.

Neil Schon:Legend
I have loved Journey since the early 80's,first heard them on forces radio on MW on my bedroom radio back in the day,the track was 'Wheel In The Sky',a few months later bought a double album Killer Watts released 1980,it was a mixture of artists on epic/cbs,it included 'Line of Fire',i was hooked, the main man ,for me, was always Schon, tasteful solo's beautiful sound and tone,he never really gets mentioned in the guitar hero's lists but he's one of my favourites and you could argue being in Journey has restricted his guitar hero rating.Anyway, now that he's at odds with Jonathan Cain in the current line up of JOURNEY,the smart money is on this being a dry run for setting up a new version,it includes original keyboard player Gregg Rolie and other current band member Dean Castronovo on Drums.Throw in Marco Mendoza on Bass, who's played with Journey on a temporary basis and John Varn on keyboards/vocal ,you have a heck of a band. The package is certainly value for money with 3 cds and a dvd, sound quality excellent and a set list to die for..31 tracks of which 24 come from the 1975-1980 era including a whopping 9 from the first 3 Pre Perry era albums. Its a joy to hear quality live versions of the likes of 'Nickel And Dime','Khoutek' and 'Look Into The Future' for example while deep cuts from the INFINITY/EVOLUTION / DEPARTURE albums, such as 'Lady Luck',Daydream''Stay Awhile &'Just The Same Way'Naturally the mega selling ESCAPE album cant be overlooked and is represented by 'Still They Ride','Mother,Father' and 'Dont Stop Believin',the only other albums represented are FRONTIERS with 'Separate Ways' and TRIAL BY FIRE with the title track. Throw in a couple of SANTANA classics in 'Black Magic Woman and 'Oye Como Va' and your smiling from ear to ear.Clearly Schon was making a statement with this track list, had he added 'Majestic/Where Were You?' i would have payed twice as much. The musicianship is top drawer and Mendoza's Bass playing outstanding in particular.Personally i hope this release flies off the shelf and Neil knocks Journey on the head and carries on with this set up Time will tell. Buy and enjoy. Oh and the DVD is great also
