Original Album Series [5 Pack]

A brilliant set of five albums from Rod Stewart that are well worth the money. The only problem is, I've started to collect these classic sets and there are far too many for my bank balance to cope with. But they are exceptional value for money and deserve a second look.

I saw this pack of rod stewart cds and ordered it for my dad as he really likes rod stewart. I thought it was a good buy as it has alot of songs he not heard in alot of years so he was really happy. Would recommend this. It was delivered quick.

Rod’s ‘American Songbook’ series was a hit with my Dad, but this gravel-voiced rock & pop is closer to my own heart (especially the years 1978-1984).I used to play ‘Foolish Behaviour’ in 1980. Where have all the years gone? This likable 10-track collection of slow songs and rockers offers the single ‘Passion’, the rocker ‘Give me wings’ and the reggae-influenced tune ‘So soon we change’.Thankfully, ‘Tonight I’m yours’ is now divorced from the dark days of 1981. This patchy release is not helped by combining old-school rock & roll (‘Tear it up’) with contemporary material (‘Tonight I’m yours’). The rocker ‘Tora Tora Tora’ is similar to ‘Where the boys go’ by the Rolling Stones (1980). The set is boosted by good covers of ‘How long’ (by Ace) and ‘Just like a woman’ (Bob Dylan). Why is the hit single ‘Young Turks’ buried in 9th place?On Rod’s 1984 effort ‘Camouflage’, ‘Can we still be friends’ benefits from a moving lead vocal and a sympathetic synth arrangement (which arguably makes it preferable to other versions). The winning formula for ‘Baby Jane’ is revisited for ‘Heart is on the line’ (to good effect). The track ‘Camouflage’ sounds a lot like ‘Who said I would’ by Phil Collins (which arrived a year later). The ballad ‘Getting into trouble’ has a tasteful synth arrangement and a reggae-style bass.I didn’t buy ‘Every beat of my heart’ (1986) at the time. The Scottish-themed title-song gained a lot of airplay, but my interest had faded by then. The sound of Rod’s music changed after ‘Camouflage’, and his somewhat muted vocals are not the same. Gene Simmons of Kiss rates Bob Ezrin highly as a producer, but is he the right man for Rod Stewart? On vinyl, the sides were divided into rockers and ballads. The slow songs ‘In my own crazy way’ and the title-hit are okay.When Rod was asked about recordings he didn’t like, he answered “Love touch…..Its garbage”. He was referring to the movie theme (from ‘Legal Eagles’) and it’s hard to disagree. Why do compilers still use the song?‘Vagabond Heart’ (1991) is the only nineties album here, and it’s the worst of the lot! Why wasn’t ‘Body Wishes’ (1983) included instead? There is a good 4-song EP here, but that’s all. The EP could consist of ‘Rhythm of my heart’ (produced by Trevor Horn), ‘The Motown song’ (produced by Richard Perry), ‘Have I told you lately’ (some may prefer the Van Morrison version) and a decent cover of the duet ‘You are everything’ (by Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross). Interestingly, the latter is not performed as a duet.The CD format showcases Rod’s distinctive, raspy vocal sound on the first three discs. Unfortunately, after 1984 the music goes downhill, and I can see why I lost interest in the nineties.

This was a very good boxset of rod stewart I enjoyed listening to every album in the boxset quick service only had to wait 2 days for it thank you

Best vocalist ever...

Purchased as a gift for my wife as she is a huge fan of Rod Stewart therefore will rate it as top rate for content and was pleased with the speed and efficiency of the delivery.

I have all these album on vinyl and they don't get played, so to be able to have them on cd allows me to enjoy them again and at a great price as well

Five good Rod Stewart albums, just as I expected, nicely packaged and presented in cardboard sleeves no plastic cases! Good value for Money!!
