Arginine is used to make nitric acid, which helps blood vessels dilate and lowers blood pressure. 1998 Nobel Prize for this discovery. But with arginine supplements, only 1% can make through the stomach, intestines, and liver. Which is why you take L-Citrulline, of which 80% gets through because it bypasses the liver, and then converts to arginine. That's 80 times as much arginine naturally relaxing your blood vessels! Pine bark helps you use that arginine to make nitric oxide. The three highest sources of Procyanidins are Grape Seed Extract, Pine Bark and Pycnogenol. Proanthocyanin bioflavonoids are virtually identical whether they come from pine bark, grape seeds, lemon tree bark, cranberries, or hazel nut tree leaves. The difference is in the varying concentration in the different plant. Grape Seed Extract has the highest concentration of Proanthocyanin’s, 95% concentration. Once source claims that pine bark also dissolves arterial plaque. Pycnogenol's improvement of endothelial function can be explained by its ability to activate the enzyme endothelial nitric oxide synthase, present in endothelial cells, to more efficiently generate nitric oxide from the precursor amino acid L-arginine. This is big. It makes the production of nitric oxide more efficient! If you want to reduce your blood pressure, you want to optimize and maximize your body's production of nitric oxide.

Seems quality and improves cognition.

First, I like NOW, and I buy quite a bit from them. I've had some considerable benefits from Pycnogenol that I just didn't feel in this extract. It's considerably less expensive than Pycnogenol, and if it works for you, stick with it. In my experience, you generally feel the effects of Pycnogenol rather quickly (unlike many supplements). In any event, I think I'll be spending the extra dough going forward.
