A great snapshot of a lost era
The film is a mix of documentary style and acted scenes. The latter is pretty poor but the rest of the film is excellent. The live footage just highlight how great this band were live. The restoration is excellent with a sharp picture and great audio. Also great value at the price.

Its about The Clash, of course its excellent
Reviewed March 2024:Of course its excellent! Its about the Clash, and has loads of interesting footage of the band live, in the studio and just living life. It is loosely a documentary before they really became global.Ray Gange plays the lead role as a roadie, and the story line in interesting and not cheesy.A must for any fan or anybody who has interest what it meant to be an upcoming band trying to make a living.

Rude Boy review
The Clash Rude Boy film is excellent especially to those that remember that period. The group go on a roller coaster tour of the UK and are really up against it from police , authorities, over zealous fans, racists, all sorts. The story is told by Ray Gange, roadie and confidant of the band. He is emblematic of many dis-affected youth of this time - a stumbling incoherent voice who's nevertheless still guided in the right way in the feeling of the music and time. Some of the music is superb and reminds me of just how far ahead the group were. Joe Strummer comes across as a visionary and a brilliant front man the like of which have now totally disappeared in our bland sanitised rubbish that exists on the music scene today. It was nice to see Police and Thieves Junior Murvin acredited at the beginning after his tragic death last December.Rude Boy

Rude doesn't quite fail
I loved this when it came out and doubt I've seen it for over 30 years. The very good bits are the footage of early Clash concerts, Victoria Park 77 and the Sort it Out and Out on Parole 78 tours mainly.Looking back, the studied inarticulacy of public schoolboy Joe Strummer is pretty laughable. And was there actually so much violence at Clash gigs? I saw them twice on both 78 tours and while there was always tension in the air the gigs didn't always implode in quite the way depicted here. The Clash look great and sound great which will work for most people. But, as a film, this lacks any real thread.

Great restoration
Acting is probably the worst ever seen...........but the restoration and the concert footage is amazing. A worthy time capsule.

I was there - and this is what it was like!
Saw this back in the day and loved it then. A fabulously flawed documentary. The additional stuff with the wonderful Ray Gange is a great bonus

Great film
If you're a longtime Clash fan, this video will make you salivate. It has all of the ringing tones of the Clash's lyrical content in the plot, as well as numerous live performances and casual footage. For instance, it shows the late, great, Joe Strummer curled up into an inhuman ball on the stage, moaning to the audience, yelling at and dispersing bouncers during "Janie Jones," and playing the piano while chatting with the main character, Ray. It shows Paul Simonon relaxing and enjoying some reggae music, and being collected after his arrest for shooting pigeons. It shows Topper Headon hitting and kicking a punching bag while dressed in a yellow excersize suit. And it shows Mick Jones singing into the microphone, snapping at our slightly bigoted main charcater, and showing up late to rehearsals. All this comes on top of the life and times of Clash fan/roadie/sex shop employee Ray Gange, and the plight of two young black men in the chaotic year of 1978 in Britain. I'd say that for all of this, this film is definitely worth watching, if not owning.

punk rock roots
This movie has been a favorite of mine since I first saw it almost 20 years ago. It's a great look at the roots of the punk rock movement and how politics affected the music. Great music and great footage of the Clash at work and play. Recommended if you enjoyed The Filth and the Fury.
