RothcoEnhanced Nylon MA-1 Flight Jacket - Classic Style

Don't purchase!
Pockets were off center, color wasn't as explained (more shiny than matte) and the sleeves were ridiculously short for an xl. Returned item due to these issues and they only refunded me a part of my money and charged me for shipping and a restocking fee. None of this was on their return policy. I didnt know until my refund was short and I contacted the company. They were unwilling to refund me for the full amt I paid, so I will have to file a dispute with my credit card company. Huge headache for a poor product.

Better than the original Rothco ma-1
True to size and fits like a classic bomber jacket is suppose too for a fitted look. If you’d like alittle room order one size up. This “enhanced” version is slightly less puffy than the original, and is a matte finish. I’m 6’ 160lb ordered a M for a fitted look maybe could’ve went with a large, but I didn’t want to sleeves to be long as I’d be wearing a watch.

Excellent value
I dont have the Alpha version but I now have the Rothco version. Its warm enough and durable enough. Basically its two layers of Nylon cordura with polyester filling in between.I guess if you are a purist and want the closest to an issue jacket get the Alpha but if you want a reasonable and functional replica get the Rothco. To make this jacket warmer simply get any polar or sherpa fleece jacket and wear with the MA-1 as a layer. Its 43 degrees outside and I tested it out. Its too warm for 40s. This jacket is more like 20s/30s weather. It is certainly windproof.Update: Just tested it out in 20s degree weather and it held up. Any colder though and I would wear a fleece or down vest with it...This isnt a fall or spring jacket. Fortunately Rothco has a lightweight version with no insulation.

Style, quality, Value. So what it's just Cool!
I have to say, I feel a little bad now coming to write my review. I should have been singing my jackets praises from the start. Now she's gone all I have left is the memories. Yes, I thought I might warn some but hopefully let you know how sharp, stylish, just Cool this jacket is. At 5'10 and 275lbs I'm a tank. Ok was a tank as I trained over the years as a Marine. I always admired the bombers jacket. But was for the pretty little fly boys. I was a big bad grunt. I've softened over the years. Not to soft. But sift enough. So what the hell, heart wants what the heart wants. Order and received my Enhanced 3xl jacket maybe 10 days ago. Been flying high ever since. Well until a couple of nights ago. I needed a warm jacket for a storm that came in. I knew the jacket was a little short and a little tight. 3XL is usually plenty big enough. Had I grown? All I know is after helping friends and neighbors with preparing for the storm. My lower back and front half was frozen. The rest of me was fine. I knew it was to small for sure then. I may have froze but by God I looked good getting frozen. Compliments left and right. It's a great jacket. I'm having fun with this review but bottom line. Quality, Value, Style. They run a little tight and even more short. But that's the look your looking for. Just keep it in mind. I still don't know why 3XL is there biggest size. Damn pretty flyboys!

Nicely cushioned and light weight.
I bought the flight jackets in black for me and my boyfriend. On me it was true to size, I'm a Medium (M). My boyfriend is a Large (L) but when he tried on the jacket it fit him too small. I had to purchase an Extra Large (XL) and return the L, which I paid to ship back. The XL came within days and fit great. One thing my boyfriend and I noticed was that the jackets rise up around your waist. If we extend our hands forward or upward the material bunches up around and we have to constantly pull it down (I'm 5'7' he's 5'8'). My boyfriend does not like that! We usually wear the jacket paired with a hoodie so we don't have to deal with it as much but it's one of the few things we didn't like about the quality of the it.We still wear the jackets. We feel that they're light weight, they're also cushioned on the inside to keep you warm. The zipper takes a bit of getting used to, it's bulky in my opinion. Overall I would say we are satisfied with our purchase. These jackets are perfect for the spring weather!

Warm, use more than....
For the price this jacket is great. I have the Alpha Industries version and this one definitely warmer in my open top Jeep. The Alpha Industries one is my her sturdier, comfortable and better quality but not as warm as this very well priced Rothco. Of course the trade off is that in the Rothco it is warmer but bulky ie like Ralph’s little brother in the movie ‘A Christmas Story’ hard to put your arms down. Very warm. One negative. This coat melts! I had it on the floor of my CJ5 on the passenger side ie where our feet go. The sleeve of the jacket had all sort of melting drops all over it. Scary. But on the bright side, if extremely cold take off jacket and light for instant fire as it does seem a bit flammable! If flying an airplane not good, get the Alpha Indistries version but in a CJ5 should be fine.***UPDATE*** jacket real warm, but just noticed on underside of one of the sleeves where some PRC factory worker sprayed on gobs of paint exact same color of jacket. It comes off if picked at w no marks left behind. But annoying. I would still buy jacket again.

Puffy
The jacket feels nice, definitely keeps you warm, and it’s cool that you can wear its either side. But it’s really puffy, if you’re a big guy like me then it’s gonna make you look like a ball. Only the smaller sizes with slimmer people that it’ll look good. Recommend to buy 1 size up because the jacket itself doesn’t stretch and you don’t want to choke yourself with it. Although the jacket is a little short, it fits me exactly below the waistline. Will not recommend for people that are 6 ft & above or people with big belly. One tip for all the big people, keep it zipper unzipped n open so it’ll be more symmetric and you’ll look less like a ball from the front.

Not for me
Took four weeks to get with no tracking available. The biggest thing I don't like are the pockets - they are very small. When walking, your hands just barely fit with no room for anything else. If you put anything in the pockets, you have to use the snap enclosures to make sure it doesn't fall out. The inside pocket will fit a cell phone, but if you do not snap it shut, it will fall out. The snaps are not easy to use and usually require two hands to manipulate. The coat is very puffy - if white, I would look like the Stay Fresh Marshmallow Man. For the money, I would look for something else.

Great Fit and Quality
I chose the small by reading some of the reviews. It fits great and not too bulky as a lot of people complained about. If you get it too big it will be too bulky.Im 5ft 7in/ 140lbs slender build. If thats YOU go for the small.Hope this helps you get your fit. Very light and warm jacket.

Perfect Fit
I had a MA-1 jacket which was 8 years old. It was worn out. I researched jackets from various manufacturers. I decided on Rotchco for price as well as reputation. While some reviews by people regarding oversize jackets tend to be negative, perhaps it is because the jacket's design is meant to be form fitting. I am 6'1" and 195 lbs. The size large jacket fits like a tailor made suit. Good quality zippers, they even included spare snap closures for the pockets.

Fits like a glove.
Fits like a glove. Well made with quality zipper. Came with spare replacement snaps for pockets. Great for spring, summer and fall. Love the colour.

GREAT! Go up a size, just in case.
Loved the quality of this jacket! It’s a bit close in size so, if you’re someone who enjoys a bit of extra space to layer your clothing I would suggest going up a size! But it’s perfect otherwise!
