It's a new 1/72 Vulcan, what's to say?
Well, a bit more. Having been a modeler for a few decades, I built four of the original Airfix Vulcans many years ago. They had raised lines, but didn't look too shabby, until you compared them to the recent Victor and Valiant. So they were positioned next to the Matchbox Victor, and all was well. Then Corgi issued a 1/72 Vulcan and that was simply awesome. Given that Corgi and Airfix are part of the same company, I knew then that it was just a matter of time before the old kit, many decades old, was replaced. So now the new tooling is done and what a kit! Everything you could ask for on the model is there, including conventional bombs for anyone not going for the nuclear option. That said, the nuke itself is a great little model all on it's own. There are only two nit-picks to mention. First, as with many recent Airfix kits, no crew. Seriously, it would have killed them to give the planes it's pilot etc? Easy answer, scalp one from the earlier kit, after all, it's a Vulcan, not exactly full of windows to see the figures that clearly. Second, the markings. The two decal options are nice, but the Vulcan had quite a few more interesting markings in it's long career, and the absence of the Black Buck mission markings is a shame. They could even have given the decals for the last Vulcan to fly. But then, there are bound to be reissues, and maybe more decals for them. However, these are very minor points when compared to the kit you get in the superbly sturdy Airfix box, (Revell take note). Buy one, you know you want to, incredibly highly recommended.

Good, but frustrating Vulcan
This is in many ways a vey good, well moulded kit. No discernible flash and most parts fit well, with one or two notable exceptions:1) the cockpit and front fuselage. The cockpit deck and weighting capsule require an awful lot of filing to allow the outer fuselage haves to come together accurately. Given sufficient work and patience this can be done but at £60 this is not a cheap kit and I’m not happy at having to do this amount of work. All told I would say it took a good two hours to achieve a satisfactory fit2) UndercarriageUndercarriage is almost always a fiddle but after several hours work I still haven’t manages to successfully locate the landing legs into position. I’m getting close to the point where I’m seriously considering consigning the whole thing to the bin.On a final note, kit related but not the kit itself, I used Humbrol 163 Satin for the dark green camouflage. There were some areas needing touching so I ordered a small tin of 163 green satin so I could touch up where needed. Unfortunately, this turned out to be significantly darker than the spray so the whole green part of the camouflage needs to be redone. Also the paint in the tin turned out to be gloss. All told a very disappointing project and a potentially fine kit thoroughly spoiled by key Ill fitting parts
