Great idea in concept
This product is a great idea, and would have gotten more stars if I had been able to use it. Unfortunately it looks like my chair was a rare 3" outer diameter cylinder, which the provided plate containing the 2" cutout in it would not fit.Since the point of the device is to use the top of the chair base as a brace against the other plate which is pushing up from the bottom, and not grip to the cylinder itself, the need to have the cutout at exactly 2" is not necessary.I recommend they either include a plate with a 3" cutout in the kit, or make that size the standard.

Almost useless
Didn't work. I need to figure out another way of removing the cylinder. Though in the interim, it works to hold the chair up at a reasonable height.

Works
This item removes the lift piston on office chair. It works as instruction indicate. Easy to use. Takes time but removes lift piston easily. Excellent tool for purpose.

Bring a hammer
On my first attempt, I tightened the top ring as tight as I could. Started the 2 screws to push the base off, it moved the top ring up. Loosened everything and reset. Tightened the top ring as much as I could, the wrench would not move any farther (by hand). Again tried to remove the base, but the top ring slid again. Took a hammer to the wrench and tightened the top ring a full half turn on each screw. Finally got the base off.Maybe they should ship this with an allen wrench that is 18 inches long.

Removing these chair piston risers have been the bane of my experience. I've ruined many a chair trying to hammer out these pistons. This device removes the lower chair legs from the bottom of the cylinder. They make another tool for removing the top of the cylinder, and that one works just as well as this one.

Defective. Returned. Holes for long bolts had no threads = useless.
Defective. Returned. Zero stars. Holes for long bolts that actually push the seat away from the gas lift shaft had no threads = useless. Delivered from the UK, now having to return to the US - with customs and shipper forms. Followed the Amazon instructions to the letter BUT local UPS collection point told me I needed TWO MORE shipping labels (one outside, one inside). So 24 mile round trip wasted.
