Ruffles/Shirring/Pleats are now fun with this ruffler foot!
I was excited to receive my Janome ruffler foot in the mail yesterday. I'm pretty much a beginner to sewing but I've begun to use the ruffler for my projects. It looks cumbersome at first due to it's bulky appearance, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy and fun to use! I used to make my gathers using the traditional basting method and it takes forever. I was able to add ruffles to the Priscilla curtains I was making and finish it today in no time.I did find the foot challenging to use the first time especially with setting "1". I've learned by trial and error that I just needed to loosen the depth screw with this setting, otherwise if it's too tight, my machine is more likely to jam due to the tight stitching/narrow depth between ruffles. But not too loose either that I don't get any ruffles at all. I played with the depth setting quite a bit with some fabric scraps to get more comfortable using it. By the way, never forget to put down the lever for your presser foot when you sew! I've easily missed this a few times because of the foot size when I first used this foot and wondered why I wasn't getting any ruffles and of course, my fabric was not being properly fed to the feed dogs. I didn't change my tension settings yet based on the fabric I'm using (my default is at 3-4, my stitch length was at the highest). I decided to buy the Janome ruffler foot because I've found out that some generic ones don't have the feature screws where you can adjust the foot in such a way that you align its needle hole from left to right, front to back so that the ruffler foot permits the needle to go freely through its needle hole without breaking. So it's really a plus that you can align your foot properly with this one.

Ruffler: The Most Amazing Thing Since Sliced Bread
I am currently a junior in my years as a fashion design student, and I have to say that this is one of the best investments that I have purchased for my career for awhile. If you are in to children's wear or cute dresses that have a lot of ruffling, than you cannot believe what a life saver this transformer-esque looking foot is! If you've ruffled by hand, gathering string by string than you know the agony and patience it takes to get the final product to look just right. Since ruffles are part of my design aesthetic, I was doing 3 to 4 yard ruffles and they were taking me AT LEAST 4 hours each by hand. Now... 5 minutes tops with the ruffler!!!!! I couldn't believe how professional and beautiful and fast this little guy works---like a dream.Once you get the hang of all the settings for how wide a ruffle and how many ruffles per stitch, this is going to be your new favorite toy! I honestly still want to ruffle every piece of fabric I own!

Does exactly what it's supposed to
I had purchased a cheap generic ruffler at a nearby fabric store. It broke the first time I used it. I had seen some good reviews regarding this Janome ruffler, checked to make sure it fit my machine and ordered it. It does absolutely beautiful work. The six and twelve stitch adjustments look more like a pleat, very tidy. The one stitch adjustment is more of a traditional ruffle. The only advice I would give is to make sure you have enough thread in your bobbin and on your spool to complete your ruffle, the regularity is a little off if you have to change either during the course of sewing it. Not that that happened to me, or anything. This is a quality attachment for your sewing machine, just be sure it fits.

Worth EVERY penny!
I've gone through a lot of ruffler feet. I have a sewing business so I do a lot of ruffles and this one has been the best by far. I've used it on 2 of my machines and it's worked great on both of them. I don't have the problems I usually have and I can count on it to do a good job every time. I plan to buy another one so that when this one wears out I will have another to use. Worth every single penny!

Should be called Pleater
I ended up returning this product. The company (Ken's) gave me a prompt refund, no questions asked, which was nice. The ruffler required instructions to install, which were not great, but included pictures for clarity. I truly wondered if I had it on right. But it worked well. It just made more like pleats instead of gathered ruffles. I expected some nice gathers, as I do a lot of this, but it wasn't the right look for what I needed. Also, it makes a loud banging when it ruffles your fabric. There is a metal arm that slams down onto your fabric and shoves it under the presser foot forcing a small fold in the fabric. Scared me the first time I used it, I thought something was wrong, but it was just the mechanics of it.Anyway, if you want pleats (not ruffles) go ahead and invest in this little gadget. I needed soft ruffles, so it wasn't for me. Otherwise, it seems like a good investment and time saver.

I had trouble with it
It could be my lack of experience, but I had a really hard time getting this thing working. I have a Janome 8077 (Which is the same as the Magnolia 7330) so it should be compatible, but the bobbin thread constantly jams when using the ruffler. I then have to remove the foot, remove the jam, rethread everything and put the foot back on, then it will work for maybe a yard or so before jamming again. Very disappointing. If someone knows what could be causing this, leave me a comment and I'll try their suggestion.

Well Made Ruffler
Makes pleats and ruffles with ease. If you have trouble just keep adjusting the tension until it works. Also I have found it works better if you don't weave the fabric through all of the 'fingers'. I just place the fabric directly under the metal 'tooth pusher'. I know those terms are not correct but I can't describe it any other way. Japan made, heavy weight, excellent quality.

Janome Ultimate Ruffler
Being new to sewing I have found loads of tutorials with ruffles and wanted to try them out. I bought ht ultimate ruffle on a whim and can't be more happy. After a couple of unsuccessful tries I finally got the hang of it and can ruffle or pleat and attach lace while gathering to anything in a matter of seconds. There are a couple of videos found in the Janome webpage that show you how to do just that and also on youtube.

Flimsy not sure this a real part
Item came poorly packed, box heavily damages, pieces inside were loose and snapped off. Not sure this is a proper Janome part as it wasn't the same as my original part that this was to replace.
