Great sword. Scabbard not so much.
The sword lives up to its Longquan heritage. Substantial, sharp, beautiful work.The scabbard however uses a soft leather instead of a hard leather and was torn by the tip of the sword (even though it was wrapped in shipping plastic) when it was sheathed prior to shipping. I was able to repair the damage with Gorilla glue and black duct tape and strengthen the bottom of the scabbard with black duct tape. Honestly I am less worried about the cosmetics of the scabbard than I am with it actually being functional and it able to protect the user from injury.Out of the box, scabbard is really not functional without modifications to strengthen and stiffen the soft material, especially at the blade tip where it comes to rest against the leather. Otherwise when you go the sheath the blade you are likely to slice the soft leather of the scabbard open with the blade tip. It's not rigid enough and is THAT soft.Feedback for the sword makers- don't use soft leather for the scabbard. Hard leather or wood only.
