The Girl in the Mist

A fabulous romantic thriller!
Actress and author Delphine LaRue needs a secret retreat from a crazy stalker and her security team recommends a house on a lake in the northwest town of Misted Pines. Delphine falls in love with the house and starts renovating when she sees a young girl in the mist. Then she finds out that there is a killer in Misted Pines, their sheriff is incompetent, and her hot neighbor is the man the town is relying on solving the mystery and keeping their town safe. When I saw that Kristen Ashley was writing a romantic thriller I was so excited! She does a great job writing women in jeopardy novels, and The Girl in the Mist branches off from that trope into a mystery. Was it perfect? No. Was it fun and enjoyable? Yes. I loved that KA is trying something new and I hope she sticks with it, this book holds so much promise!Delphine LaRue differs from other KA heroines in that she is slightly older. She’s 53, has been married twice, and has two grown daughters. Despite that slight age difference, Delphine is the same kind of heroine in other novels from this author. She is sweet, funny, totally likable, pretty, and quirky. The hero is pretty similar to other alpha heroes in her novels although he is older as well. Hot, stoic, strong, dependable, and did I say hot? Cade is an ex Navy Seal and FBI Profiler, which makes him somewhat secretive, but also totally smart. What we come to find out is that he’s also a legend in that area and the town totally depends on him for their safety.I think the Girl in the MIst does a good job at setting an eery mood. There’s a stalker,a killer, and the mystery wasn’t one that I could figure out easily. I’ve read some reviews trashing this novel and I just don’t see how it could be seen as anything but entertaining! It’s a bit of a slow burn novel which is different for this author and that could possibly make some of her readers mad but not me! I am very happy with this energetic, fun, romp in a spooky little town.If you are a Kristen Ashley fan expect a few changes, but in essence it’s the same style of book she typically writes. There is a bit of a mystery, our characters don’t immediately jump in the sack, and she spends time setting up the story. All things I can get behind and enjoy. I rate this one as a solid must read! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Not quite a sleepy town
I've been a fan of Kristen Ashley's for a while now and it never ceases to amaze me how she can write so many books that I absolutely LOVE, The Girl in the Mist is just the newest addition to the list.We start off with Delphine Larue needing to get away and hide for a while while a search is going on for a crazed fan that has gone over the deep end. So she purchases a house in the sleepy little town of Misted Pines, but this sleepy town is anything but boring that's for sure!Cade Bohannan is tasked with keeping Delphine safe, but now that young girls are showing up dead in his town he needs to catch a killer as well, because the town's sheriff isn't fit for the job. This story was sooo good! The chemistry between Delphine and Cade was great and I LOVED their relationships with their children as well, but what I enjoyed even more than that Is that keeps you guessing to the very end on who the killer could be.I listened to the audiobook version of this book and LOVED the narration done by Hillary Huber, she did a great job with bringing this story to life. This is an easy book for me to recommend not only to fans of KA's work, but to anyone that enjoys a good Romantic Suspense as well.Happy Reading!!!

This book has a split personality
I’ll start off by prefacing that I have read most of the authors previous books; which are vast and cover different genres. I’ve noted before in my reviews that her style can be really divergent. This book however takes the prize as “split personality “. The first 20% of it is extremely frustrating to read. It’s as if the author was high and was having an existential stream of thought and somehow the editor let it on thru. I seriously had to read over passages to try to figure out what the heck the characters were saying to each other. Then suddenly, Ashley’s normal writing style takes over.I have to make mention of a potential spoiler…there is mention of a “girl in the mist” in the first 5% of the book and then it’s NEVER brought up again. It’s just the neighbor. So if you’re like me , I was really confused why that was dropped in there in the beginning. Again, I must reiterate that the first 25-35% of the book is rubbish and that is why I rated it as such.Let me note on a few other points. Many reviewers commented on Ms. Ashley’s political observations. They were abundant in this book more so than in any of her other ones. I’m a middle of the road kinda person and other peoples opinions usually roll off me so that didn’t bother me; but I can see how it would to others. So, if you’re that type (not open minded) you might want to steer away from this book.On a pleasant note, there were mixed reviews of the mmc. I thought she nailed it! Most of her male leads are a little bit on the alpha hole side for me. (She usually redeems them for me) but Cade was perfect. He never says or does anything demeaning, cruel or bad to Delphine. He treats her right the whole story but keeps his “alphaness” in tack. Finally, a Kristen Ashley male mc that I can love 100%. The plot line is suspenseful but not over the top. There are no spectacular side characters that you may be used to getting from Ashley. This one has a solid family front but I didn’t feel as strongly about the side characters as I usually do from her writing. So, overall; not the best but not the worst. You just have to get thru the first quarter of the book. (Maybe only her devoted fans are willing to do that) I guess I’m one of them 😏

Terrible book
The plot is superficial and never the core of the book. The core is a bunch of side notes that never draw you in. Most Characters are never really described, so they do not draw you in. Very boring read really

Kristen never disappoints!!
5 huge stars for this book. Kristen Ashley stepped out romantic thriller and let me tell you, it was amazing. So many twists and turns and when you think you may have an idea of what's going on, yet another twist and you're back at square one. I loved the connection with all of the characters. One of the things I love about Kristen Ashley books is that you fall in love with every character. Another perfect book and I hope there are many more in this series!

Stunning book.
If I had not known the author, without the clues of a couple of past friends from earlier series I would not have guessed this was a Kristen Ashley novel. The closest would be her series in the Burg. What a book, the style so different from her usual gushing awesomeness. Slow start, building and building the story. Then the crescendo but no, wait, we go higher. Wham, bam thank you mam. I have had this book for over a year and not read it then she releases another in the series and I realised I need to read this book first. Oh how I regret not reading it sooner. I cannot put into words how good this book is, the storyline so detailed I thought I knew the villain then I guessed again. Wrong both times. Such style, such panache, such drama. Everything was there including a hot alpha (more than one) and the together sassy woman, the hot stuff too the mix of side characters young and old. Impeccable writing, Kristen Ashley has grown up and boy o boy did I appreciate it. Five extra bright stars from me.

K A outdoes herself
I am totally a Kristen Ashley fan but this newest venture into mystery and suspense incorporating some o.d friends from previous books, whilst outside her usual style is still so much her.The story is gripping with an unexpected twist so much so that I had to read it all in one go. Thank you and Rock On!
