This is a completely useable soldering station and it's portable
I've been using soldering equipment for over 50 years in both professional and hobby settings so I am a fairly good judge of this kind of gear. I just built a small "through hole" device with this station and it performed admirably. It took about 30 seconds for the tip to come up to temperature which is fairly fast as soldering stations go. The temperature display seems to be fairly accurate but could be better. The most important thing is it's repeatable so once you set it at the temperature you desire it will heat up to that temperature every time you turn the unit on. I was using a 7 amp hour battery and running the station for about two hours didn't make a dent in the charge state of the battery. You could probably run this station for a week on one full charge. The best thing is its portability. I really like that. My expensive Weller station has to be tied to a mains outlet to operate. I can take this station out to my car if I need to use it there. My only complaints which are pretty minor are the lack of different styles of tips on the pencil. The unit comes with 5 tips and they are fairly standard. I wish there were a larger variety like the Weller stations have. I personally don't like the tip cleaning sponge but I use a dry tip cleaner so I just ignore the sponge problem. If you get one of these units I recommend you buy a dry tip cleaner. The only other complaint is the high pitch whine that the unit makes while operating. It's not loud and is only slightly bothersome. It really doesn't interfere with the station's useability but it would be nice if it didn't make that noise. The soldering pencil is small and light and does not get hot to the touch even after operating for over an hour. It even has a nice soft non-slip rubber like coating that makes it very comfortable to use and insulates your hand from the heat. I can recommend this unit. It's portability and ease of use make it a very nice soldering system.

Where has this been all my life?
OK, few things surprise me in this day and age but this thing is so simple but absolutely amazing. Heats up fast and works very well, so portable and easy to use. Highly recommend!

Fairly good, but awful temperature control
This iron definitely works! The main problem is the temperature is way, waaaay off on most settings (you can see in using a Pace temperature gauge which gives you live feedback). It takes about 15 seconds to go from ambient to 290C (335°C measured) and 1:40 to go from 300C (350°C measured) to 550°C (560°C measured), which is fairly quick but it struggles going up on the range. Ideally you won't ever go above 350°C when soldering anyway, so that was more academic in nature. I accomplished this using a knockoff battery which only showed on bar down after 20 minutes or so of the iron being on. A 5Ah battery will likely run for 40 minutes i would assume?Overall, this gets a solid 4 stars! It's very small and portable and uses common batteries so a big thumbs up from someone with a couple decades of soldering experience! Now, the downsides are that it's not a quick change tip system, so you're stuck with the old ceramic heater core (Weller type) which are inexpensive but junk material. This will likely not last long or will get damaged easy and I'm not sure about replacement parts. You can see in the picture, the soldering handle is huge compared to my Pace iron, so comfort sucks if you're going to be soldering long hours but it's doable. If this was aJBC quick tip compatible unit I would be over the moon impressed. Also, if there's a way to recalibrate, then it might actually merit a 5th star.

Heats up quick
I have only used the iron once just to be sure it worked. The solder flow was really good high temperature setting is very hot. I really won't know more until cold weather comes that is when I restore stereos. It comes with extra tips which is handy. The temperature settings seem to be correct. The iron is comfortable to use light weight.

The best soldering advance in my lifetime
If you have DeWalt batteries you need this soldering iron. The battery heats it up almost immediately so there's no waiting around for slow AC to warm the iron. Crank it to the highest setting and solder away! It's perfect for working on trailer wiring (without having to run an extension cord) and working on the roof or other places where an extension cord just gets in the way. Ahhhh, this makes soldering easy.

Works with Bauer 20v after modification
Real quick, I’m more than happy with this soldering iron. It heats up pretty quick and sips power compared to what I expected. It doesn’t have the highest output but it’s comparable to my old 120v weller. Cordless is such a convenience and it’s made every soldering project less annoying. I’ve heard enough anecdotes between the supposed compatibility between dewalt and bauer batteries to risk giving this a shot. In this case no, it’s not directly plug and play. If you want to use Bauer 20v batteries with this soldering iron you’ll need to take a decent pair of cutters and trim back some of the side slide supports so the pins of the battery make contact with the bars of the soldering iron. It’s not an exact science and the plastic was fairly easy to cut through so I’d call this an easy mod. I also found i had to trim this little plastic tab (perhaps for centering?) on the top front of the bauer battery itself to get it to fit all the way. Once done though, the battery doesn’t lock in place but it is firmly friction fit and no concern of mine. The weight of the battery is more than enough to weigh the iron down firmly and without concern. For what it is i’m almost enthused with how well it all works. Highly recommended!

Missing parts
This was delivered without the two auxiliary helpers - the main reason I selected it rather than another option. Is it possible to have them posted to me?
