When I began to read this book I found it to cover several topics. However as I read more I found myself thinking like the author. I believe the author conveyed a message of opportunity through change, education, independence and wealth. Its my recommendation that if you are considering leveling up in life change is possible through the information that Skip Flanagan shares in this book.I gave this book a 5 star rating because of the message.

Inspiring, Encouraging, Thought-provoking
As I read through this book, I had a hard time wrapping my brain around the author's perspective. Skip Flanagan, a black male in his late 30's, has spent much of his life associating with the urban population. I'm a white female, almost 50, surrounded by middle and upper-middle class people from all over the world. I currently live in Northern Virginia / Washington DC, where racial diversity and acceptance is commonplace.I was ready to abandon the book 1/3 of the way through, thinking that Flanagan was rambling on about his dreams, on some tirade that did not apply to me. However, something made me continue, even though the author seemed to view the world as black and white, Democrat / Republican, and right and wrong. I'm sure glad I continued reading! It dawned on me halfway through the book: I cannot criticize Skip's assessment of our nation's problems and his proposed solutions because I have no personal experience with the plight of urban Black Americans. His life experiences shape his perspective. As a reader, it is my duty to try to understand his point of view.I know and associate with upper income people of various races who seem to have either broken through the racial barriers he speaks about and they do not seem to make an issue of their race. Minorities in this area (Black, Asian, Indian, etc.) are successful in their own right, but do I truly know and understand the struggles they may have been through or are currently going through? This book makes me think about stereotypes, prejudices, racism and discrimination as well as many other issues."Your Only Choice is to Become Rich" is partly autobiographical and partly an invitation to roll up your sleeves and take a good look at the serious problems of inner city struggles. How can we progress? What is needed within man and in society to make progress toward peace and productivity?Skip shares his personal situation, his challenges, successes and suggestions as to how to make improvements. It starts with hard work, belief in God, high moral standards, rugged individualism, and a willingness to stay the course even if that course is lonely.According to Flanagan, the main way to become wealthy is through education, determination and taking advantage of opportunities, even if you have to create your own. He covers so many topics and I love his passion and heartfelt love of others. He is truly in the minority with his positive outlook and I can see why skeptics would not understand. Skip is right: we need more unity and less separateness and by reading this book, you will walk away with this feeling. Had I put this book down less than halfway through, I would not be challenged to think about the concept of unity and how to pursue it - or if it should be pursed at all."Your Only Choice is to Become Rich" would be an excellent book for those who live in an urban environment because it inspires and encourages. It also reveals to upper income citizens the difficulties that keep people "stuck."I am rating this book 4 stars rather than 5 for editing mistakes. They did not detract from the overall message of the book though.
