Bright!
These are very bright indeed when used to replace the old-fashioned halogen variety. We put six in our son and daughter-in-law's kitchen and reckon it is now the palace of light! But, seriously, they work very well indeed. Fitting (as with the halogen variety) is very simple but not immediately - you need to switch off, then unclip the original bulb holder and finally pull sufficient wiring through the hole to allow you to get hold of the bulb and twist it.Also, take care that you need this "bayonet" fitting as there are two types, one like this, one with just two bare pins which push into the holder rather than twist in.

LED technology has come a long way!
I tried LED bulbs in my kitchen a few years ago and was underwhelmed by the weak, insipid light that they produced, so this product was something of a revelation - LED technology has certainly come on in the last few years! Thanks to these bulbs, I am able to have a bright, well-lit kitchen, but I am now only using 10% of the electricity I was before and given their long lives, they pay for themselves several times over. I also like these bulbs because they don't burn your skin if you touch them.

A softer shade of white
What makes a light bulb worth five stars? I'm not sure, but I have given it a thorough test drive.I have several GU10 light fittings and it fitted them all without trouble. The light quality is very good, and is a warm white - not too stark, but equally not yellowy. It is a colour that will work well almost anywhere.Being LED it is either on or off - no warming up and no dimming.Verdict: five stars, although only time will tell if it lasts 30,000 hours

A good solid energy saving light bulb
This light bulb seems robust and comes with a 3 year warranty so I'm hoping it will last a long time. I am intending to replace all the halogen light bulbs in my kitchen with energy saving bulbs which give a warm white light and last much longer than the old ones. This one gives a 30,000 hour lamp life and although it is actually only 5W, it gives light equivalent to 50W. It doesn't get hot either, which has to be a bonus. Good value.

Excellent buy
This is a very impressive bulb replacement for the traditional 50 Watt spot light with a standard GU10 fitting. Not only does it consume only 5 Watts instead of 50, it is LED and lights instantly with a warm white. I cannot comment on the lifespan, but the bulb gives all the signs that it will last as well as the better known brands.

Significantly cheaper than other LED brands
Generally these LED spot bulbs are purchased to replace existing Halogen bulbs in spotlights, down-lights and eyeball-type light fittings with a GU10 type connection (double metal prong). They fit perfectly and easily within seconds. They are said to be 4mm longer than standard size Halogens, but the difference is virtually unnoticeable. The great advantage of LED lighting over Halogen is their low consumption of electricity, using only 10% power they achieve a 90% saving, which is excellent. These Liteway bulbs are rated 5 watts and produce the same amount of light, with equal brilliance, and equal or better natural daylight quality, as a 50 watt Halogen, or a conventional incandescent bulb. Because they are claimed to last for 30,000 hours, which is about 20 years of life at 4 hours per day, they should easily outlast most other bulbs including compact fluorescent tubes and Halogens. At 400 lumens, the light these Liteway bulbs emit is fairly bright and warm.Halogen bulbs get very hot and can be a fire risk, as well as being difficult to replace while still hot when they suddenly fail, but LED bulbs never get hot and are much safer. There is no awkward delayed action to these bulbs and they emit bright light immediately they are switched on. All these many features make them a wise buy. These Liteway bulbs do not seem to have been made to quite the same high specification as other manufacturers LED bulbs, and the white plastic casing enshrouding the bulb appears to be of one piece, not two, and of a thinner specification. The metal connector prongs look OK and are quite strong. There are 8 small LED spots, not the 6 in competitors bulbs, which are arranged, not in a circle but in two clusters of four, some of which are very close to each other and one wonders if such close proximity will affect the long-life claim. The LED spots are covered with a thinner slightly opaque plastic membrane, without the dimples which achieve diffusion of the light beams. They are lighter in weight that competitors bulbs. All this makes them look less than solid and one wonder how durable they are. But… they are guaranteed for 3 years, so obviously the manufacturer thinks they are durable.Because they are made in white plastic, a small ring of white will show when fitted to chrome, silver or gold surfaced spotlights etc, this may look a little odd? Of course if your spotlights are white then these bulbs will merge unobtrusively with them. These bulbs have 8 LEDs arranged in a distinctive pattern within the bulb which create a slightly more diffuse spotlight effect. Some people may prefer a single LED which gives a more powerful central spotlight beam. If that is what you want then search for that particular specification. There is no country of origin label on the bulb, so one can assume they are made in the EU… so their quality and length of life should be satisfactory. They will probably have a 10 or more times longer life than a Halogen… if so, then they have excellent green credentials. The 3000K marking indicates the colour temperature in degrees Kelvin and the higher the number the more powerful light. 3000K is as high as it gets for this type of LED bulb, compared with some others which only produce 2700K… so these Liteway bulbs are better. At about £3.40 each, these Liteway LED bulbs are significantly cheaper than other brands. Using one of these bulbs for 4 hours per day will cost about £1 per year to run, compared to a halogen, or ordinary bulb, which would cost £11 per year. Multiply that saving of £10 per bulb by however many bulbs you have switched on in your house at one time and you get the annual saving by going to an all LED lighting system. In just 4 to 5 months these bulbs have saved their cost. Well worth considering.
