Fun romp for the young and young-at-heart
Though I am not a child anymore, I still enjoy the occasional book aimed at the younger set. Sometimes it is necessary to rest the mind by escaping into another world. This book is an excellent escape for us older people who are young at heart. The language is easily understandable, and the book is filled with hints of a large, fantastical, and very complex world. It's as if the author took inspiration from the worlds of the old fairy tales where the saccharine-sweet did not yet exist, and combined it with bits and pieces from various mythologies peppered with popular culture and a happy ending! It's an interesting mix, and thus far on rereading I have also noticed some things I didn't catch on my first read. I have already suggested this book to my much younger half-sister, and if the new author is ever here... may I request a story or two centered around the Watchtowers? I find their description fascinating.
