The Return Of The Pink Panther [Blu-ray]

Unmissable link in the chain
This is the Pink Panther film that's strangely (and infuriatingly) missing from the 'complete' box set. It's not the best of the five films, but it has some good routines and some great moments. If you want to see the films in sequence, it's the link in the chain between A Shot in the Dark and The Pink Panther Strikes Again.

An old favourite
I bought this as I had been brought a set as a present and this particular film was missing. In my opinion the funniest Pink Panther film made. I watched it with my adult daughter who had never seen it before and who loves it. Guaranteed to cheer you up.

The price was fair. I hope to see the other pink panther films on blu-ray soon!
This blu-ray seems to be sourced from the same digital master that was aired on epix. I've been comparing the two and the only difference is that the hdtv airing seems to have been degrained and is thus a little softer and lacking fine details. While the blu-ray is grainy it is definitely a step up from anything else that is available.Until they go back to the original negative or something this is probably the best this film can look. This is really a no frills disc but the film alone takes up over 21GB on the disc so that means to me that they decided to put more bitrate into the movie instead of extras. I'm fine with this. The price was fair. I hope to see the other pink panther films coming to blu-ray.

Perfectly ok but not outstanding release
Previous review yes I partially agree with but it's not bad the dvd releases was hood and this still is yes nothing spectacular but not bad I don't actually see a need for HD on such films who cares if I can see close details on things that the director in man cases never expected to be seen so close many films were filmed on old stock at time of filmingThe colors on thus blu ray are good and the two channel sound is also very good was worried when I saw that but in fact it sounded very clean and clearYes no restoration but if all films get restored prices would be higher I'm happy to pay less than ten quid for it to be released rather than twenty if restored

Great picture transfer on Blu-ray
Nothing wrong with the transfer on The Return Of The Pink Panther at all. It's a region B-locked Universal release with absolutely no grain removal, gorgeous colours and no edge enhancement. Looks terrific projected onto a 135 inch screen. This is how it looked when it originally came out to all those out there complaining of "grain" and "dirt". Every bit as good as the original Pink Panther blu ray. The disc is bare bones though - there are no extras at all - not even subtitles. Still - great to have. Where is A Shot In The Dark?

Hilarious Gem
This is a hilarious gem! Peter Sellers was a genius! Speaking French as a mother tongue makes it even more enjoyable to follow the inepties of Jacques Clouseau Inspector of the Sûreté Nationale with a munkey, a beggar, is yellow friend Cato, asking for a rume, if the Phantom has a swimming pull, pretending working for the phune company of Nice, wrecking everything on his path, and so on!

Good but not the best of the series
This is a classic film of Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau, with Herbert Lom as the long suffering Police Commissioner. The film has its moments like the famous line "do you have a room?" but on the whole it does get somewhat tedious. This is the second film of the series they have released on Blu-Ray, after the original "Pink Panther" and the transfer is good, with a clear image with vivid colours.I just wish they will release on Blu-Ray, what I think is by far the best film in the series, "A shot in the dark".

"Do you have a lass-ohnce for that murnkey?"
The stars in my reviews are always for picture quality only, not for the film, because that's what we're mostly concerned with here. So 3/5 for this one. There's some light grain, but it only really manifests itself in an obvious way that may distract in darker interior scenes. The colour is undersaturated, and has a 70s film look about it. But neither of these negatives spoil the viewing experience, really, unless you're a real trainspotter. It's sharp enough for the job. The aspect ratio is 2.35:1, as it was shot in Panavision. Decent sound. This is a much better film than The Pink Panther (although the PQ on that disc is higher at 4/5 - I wish it were reversed), as the rest of it is good enough to stand up around Sellers. Fun and silly, the best of the series, I reckon...
