The Dyspraxic Learner

A Great Guide
I am an adult with dyspraxia. This book is exceptionally detailed, not only providing an abundance of strategies for living with dyspraxia but also explaining what dyspraxia is and how it affects us. The book is well-organized, making it easy to read and understand. This is great for those who have dyspraxia and those who want to learn more about the commonly-overlooked disorder.

I recommend..
I recommend... no.... strongly advise learners (of all ages), teachers, assessors, parents, employers, partners, friends to read this book. It is a gem and shines a light on the often misunderstood condition. By taking an holistic approach the author reflects the unique yet potentially all encompasing effect of Dyspraxia. This is a balanced but positive and realistic resource which offers a wealth of interventions by which you can live with the condition successfully. So none of the doom laden heaviness one is often left with from similar books on this topic. For those whose dyspraxia diagnosis was delayed into adulthood/late adulthood this book is equally useful. It will help to unmask layers of confusion and mystery and offer hope that even at this point, life can get better. The book was an easy and enjoyable read and for those who want to know more please see the comprehensive reference section.Well done to Alison Patrick.

Every person with Dyspraxia should read this book
I was diagnosed with Dyspraxia at school. I had it narrowed down to handwriting and memory. Having gone to college as an adult (37) and have really struggled I searched more about Dyspraxia with my wife and realised the difficulties I was having were down to Dyspraxia. I decided to buy this book. I now understand myself so much better. There are so many things that I thought were down to personality that are actually due to my Dyspraxia. I never thought that me quite enjoying eating burnt foods could in any way be linked to my Dyspraxia.I would love everyone who has Dyspraxia to read it. I feel like I have strategies now to deal with so many of the issues that I didn't realise related to Dyspraxia.Thank you so much for writing this book Alison Patrick. I finally understand Dyspraxia! If it was possible to give more than 5*s I would.

Not just about motor skills, fantastic book
I wish I'd read this as soon as it was published. Years of head scratching at my son's primary school and referrals refused by the local CDC could have been avoided and he'd have the interventions that he needs already and be well on his way. Aimed at secondary and above it is still very relevant for primary school age and the only book on dyspraxia that I've found that is not either rather out dated or lacking in detail especially on cognitive aspects. Bought one for my son's school as although they are good as schools go on SpLDs, they know very little about this SpLD and are not identifying dyspraxic kids.

This book is fantastic - buy it if you have a dyspraxic teenager or if you teach them!
This book is a must for any child/parent facing dyspraxia from age11+. It is a revelation. Well written, referenced and accessible. It is going to help us. I can't recommend it enough. It should be a compulsory text for all secondary school teachers too.
