I see some complaining it goes to in depth on some topics, but for the sake of understanding sometimes you need to take a holistic approach and cover additional material, that said I do recommend going to skillsforall and completing that free training as well.

The book is overkill for the test.I took it for fun and found it easier than the CompTIA Network+ (skip that one too unless your company is paying for it).

I was very disappointed with this book. Until now I thought that all Cisco Press books were top quality but this one ruined that reputation. First off the book editing was so bad that I'm not even sure it was edited as I found many grammatical and punctuation errors. Also the online training material is uninteresting and the videos looked like they were quickly filmed in a day. One of the videos is not even a recognized format and does not load. Also when I first bought the book I had to contact Cisco support and tell them that their vocabulary flash cards were for another topic. As far as the content the author keeps talking about abstraction and shipping things too much and not covering basic networking in a way that holds your interest or aligns with the exam. He goes off the rails too much with this abstraction theme and it makes the book a boring read. The author should have written this book for data center and not basic networking. This book was obviously rushed to market and I doubt the author has taken the exam as a lot of this book goes into advanced topics that are unrelated to what is on the test. It is a shame though as I like the author Russ White but I can't honestly recommend this work. If you want to know the material use the skills for all website this exam is based on.

When you are looking for a Cisco certification it is best to use a Cisco book. This has everything you will need to know.

There is a lot of errors in this book (I verified with qualified people). Many concepts are explained in a very confusing way, and are way better explained by amateurs on youtube.All this makes it way too difficult for beginners to learn from that ressource.Go on skillsforall website and follow the FREE learning path.

As others have said, this book is overly detailed for the purpose of passing the CCST exam. This isn't an issue if you value gaining a deeper understanding of the topics, especially if you plan to progress on to certs like CCNA. However if you are just concerned with studying efficiently to pass the CCST exam then this book is overkill.Some sections are well written, but others really need work. I read through the sections on dynamic routing protocols & worked through the examples multiple times, but was still having difficulties. Then I watched a free 12 minute video on YouTube which made it clearer than several hours spent with the book.But the biggest issue & the reason for the 2 stars is the errors. Errors like this in a technical text, especially one from the vendor of the cert itself, are inexcusable. I have a CompSci background so was able to pick up on a lot of these straight away, but for somebody new to the material (which is really the target audience for CCST) these errors will really impede learning.To give you an idea of the sort of errors I’m talking about, here are three choice examples;1.) In chapter 3 when covering IPv6, the book says that link local addresses are prefixed by fe00 - they are actually prefixed by fe80.2.) In chapter 8 the book explains that bandwidth is calculated by subtracting the maximum frequency from the minimum frequency - this is the wrong way round & would give you negative bandwidth every time.3.) In chapter 13 when talking about Clos fabrics, the book says a defining feature is that they have links between ToR switches & between spine routers. It’s actually the complete opposite, Clos fabrics _don’t_ have links between ToR switches or between spine routers. In the following paragraph the book then refers to a Clos fabric as a Cos fabric.And these errors aren’t confined to the book itself, they are also in the accompanying online materials. In one of the practice exams, a question refers to the ‘OSPF network layer’ of the OSI model. While OSPF does (debatably) operate at the network layer, there is simply no such thing as the 'OSPF network layer'.I don’t doubt that the author knows his stuff, however this book seems to have been rushed to publication without sufficient proofreading. I definitely can’t recommend it in the first edition.

Net het boek gelezen en is zeer leerzaam voor een beginnende Netwerk Engineer. Je heb na het lezen lang niet alle kennis maar wel een goed begin.

I passed the CCST Networking in January. Used this book and the Skillsforall courses. 75% of what is in this book, does not appear on the CCST Networking exam.

This book massively over complicates the cert and fails to describe basic concepts in an easy to understand manner.
