This was a replacement for the Remington I had for 11 years. The old one finally was getting a bit dull so I replaced it with this rather inexpensive model, which is comparable to my old one. It seems to work even better than the old one did and I'm looking forward to the 11 years+ that I know it will give me.

The quality of the remington trimmer is excellent, it feels solid, the motor is smooth and the cutting services are surgical sharp. The length attachments (that you put over the blades) are cheap plasticky things that you have to be careful with but they make the process pretty much fool proof. Follow the instructions and its hard to screw it up. I use the trimmer to give myself a short back and sides - 1" on top and 1/2" on sides and the tapered attachment for around the ears. I love it because can get a better cut than I would from some hairdressers, certainly I'm more consistent. I do need help to get back of my neck square but if I had to I could probably struggle with a couple of mirrors, a straight edge (or special neck collar) and some practice. Blending sides and top is a bit more tricky but as long as you are patient and resist the urge to cut the top or loose ends with a smaller length attachment it should work out. Note that 1" may seem a little long and it may look that way after you've driven the trimmer through your hair for 10 minutes, but if you resist the urge to go too short you'll find that after you wash, your hair will seem that much shorter. Remember you can cut more off you can't reattach the hair if its on the floor. You'll need to sweep, vacuum and shower afterwards, if you're doing it yourself its going to be hard to keep the off cuts under control.
