Q: When teaching cursive to a first timer, do we really need to start from k5 the k5 version? Or it's okay to start with this?

Both the K5 and Grade 1 versions are about Cursive Writing. The differences are the ability of a child to understand letters and phonetic sounds at Grade 1 is considered to be higher than a child at K5. The difference in one year can be very large in children. Their cognitive development is better as is their visual acuity. They recognize letters better, how the sound, usage in basic and familiar words like mommy, daddy, dog, cat, and God. A Beka's grade 1 does a lot of repetition of sounds as K5 but is a bit more advanced, and the lines in the worksheet are closer together than K5. Children generally need larger spaces to write their letters at K4 and K5 than at Grade 1. So if you want your child to be able to write consistently between the lines, go with K5.
