It worked, and I saved $260!
Losing my spare car key was a headache, but it also became a financial mess when the car dealership told me it would cost $350 to replace it. Local locksmiths weren't much better and wanted $250. Fortunately, I figured out a $90 solution!I picked up this Keylessbest programmable key ($14), got it cut at my local hardware store ($6), and used the Universal EZ Installer (UEI) with mobile app from Car Keys Express ($70) to program it.I verified that all of the above was compatible with my 2010 Ford vehicle. I checked with my car dealer to ensure this key was the same part number. Then, I verified that the UEI would work with my make, model number and year. Finally, I confirmed that my smartphone was 64-bit so it would work with the UEI app.I placed UEI into the ODB port, launched its mobile app, filled out the prompts withmy car's info, and placed the new programmable key into the ignition in the on position, but leaving the engine off. Following the UEI instructions, it programmed the key's transponder within 10 minutes, and my car started perfectly! To get the buttons to work with my Ford was a little tricky, as the car, itself, had to program them. The following steps were needed:1. With the driver door shut, electronically unlock the vehicle door from the inside2. Place the new key quickly into the ignition3. Turn the key into on/off positions without starting the car eight times within 10 seconds leaving the key in the on position4. Press any button on the new key. The car then recycled the door’s lock/unlock positions to indicate successful programming of the new key’s buttons.5. Turn the new key into the off position.6. Press any button on the old keys so they would be reprogrammed and stay functionalThe bottom line is that this experience was well worth saving $260!
