Carlson Maxi Extra Tall Pet Gate, Expands 51-59 Inches Wide

This is an awesome gate. I actually purchased two. I have three cats; one young cat and two old ones. The young cat is full of fun and frolic, so I had purchased "Baby Style" gates to keep all the kitty cats out of a certain area of our home where we entertain and have formal dining, etc. This area has two archways into it; one small and one larger, so I have been dealing with using the baby gates and another tri-fold wooden fancy gate I also bought off Amazon 3 years ago. These gates worked fine for the two older cats, but once the younger cat joined my house, he started jumping over everything. This is why I purchased these gates. I received them in two days (as I am a prime member), and they arrived very well packed by the manufacturer (Carlson Pet Products). Both were very easy to install, and some of the other comments on here about door width are VERY TRUE. These can be used in openings from 34' - 39" inches or openings from 49" - 59".These gates are very well constructed, the door opening works perfectly, and THANK GOD - our kitty can not jump over them - too high!! As you know, cats will only jump this high if they know there's a "FLAT SURFACE" for them to land on. Cats will do "SteepleChase" jumps up to a certain height, but this gate is high enough to discourage even the jump-ing-est cat - I KNOW - I HAVE ONE!!! Ha HaPROS - solid steel construction, looks nice when installed, door operates perfectly with a nice latching mechanismCONS - the only one I can see is the screws provided would not work well in drywall or plaster. Since I mounted my two gates in archways with wood trim, the provided screws worked perfectly. The provided template for marking the screw holes is slightly off. The hole marking for the top bracket is perfect, but the hole markings for the bottom bracket are around 1/2" too high. Simply tape the template to the area for mounting, and make sure the word TOP is up and at the top, and you just need to drop the bottom bracket screw markings around 1/2" and it works perfectly.

This particular gate is tall and really wide. We needed both of these We have a double door , so wide, and some dogs that like to climb over the gates. The cats usually use the small door since they've gotten lazy and the chihuahuas use it to leave the big dogs behind. And not expensive.

This is the second gate like this we’ve purchased. The one we got a few years back (same brand, size, etc.) was better built with a sturdier feel but this is still pretty good. We have a 65 pound, exuberant dog, who would put his paws on the top of the gate and jump and knock into it anytime someone came to our house. It stood the test of his wildness.It only broke when he figured out how to press down and unlock and open the gate (old model). This new version seems to have improved locking mechanisms, even if they feel cheaper.We did find that the door is large enough for even a large dog (motivated by fireworks outside) to squeeze through.It’s a good price for a gate that will probably last a year or two until his wildness breaks it again.

We have a large doorway from our living room to our dining room. We got this gate in 2019 to keep our kids and certain animals away from our larger dog. It has worked great keeping 7 animals and 2 young kids where they needed to be. It just broke last year or so when we went on vacation and our pit got too anxious and plowed through it finally after years of wear and tear and we have welded it several times since then with great success. Sadly, it's a little too old and been welded too much now for us to fix it again so I will be ordering a replacement here shortly. But really love this gate I'm super glad it's still on the amazon store unlike a lot of items where you go to rebuy and it's no longer available. Despite the fact she shouldn't it's strong enough my 30lb two year old can climb it and stand above the small animal door and it doesn't falter. I will say I never use the small animal door though as my cats are maine coones and get stuck in it but somehow my pit can squeeze through it if we leave it open.

All right I purchased a skate a couple of times before. So I purchased it this time. When it arrived, I was waiting because I was going to replace it when I had my refrigerator delivered so I was doing everything at once. Taking it out of the box I didn’t think anything I’m like OK well, maybe they just change the handle style to make it a little better no. They had a sale. You have to push the button and slide it back which I don’t like the other one I like the other style, better the slide and lift. It was so much easier at the little lever. At the bottom, you have two swing pieces that are plastic it’s not even metal it’s plastic. So my concern is if you have a bigger dog, and they happen to jump on it. It could have too much weight or so many banks into it is the way it’s plastic, the parts for the upper portion and lower portion. I don’t know why the company switch to the plastic completely but it makes no sense I liked what was there it worked and worked wonderfully. The only thing that is nice feature that they added is with the two plastic pieces. It rather be metal versus plastic is that you have to switch the levers and you just gotta use your foot to move it back, but then you got to turn around, bend down and reach through to fix it shut the gate which is kind of seneless at the bottom but anyway. That feature is nice know if it would like lift ups you feel like one piece together you just flip it up with your foot and then you can flip it down as you go through would be nice but it’s not. It’s individual barrel pieces which I think is it good? It should’ve been like one a piece of metal that did it that would’ve been better and then still kept the same clip style that you had because that was really nice. Why this got changed up to what it is I don’t know but it’s not exactly what I ordered is not what Ms represented in the picture for the item dishes with the little red lever, which is parked wonderful I thought it two other times.
