I suppose they'd work, but the material and the fit were not all that — wish I could send them back
Meh. Cue buyer's remorse with these biker shorts. If I didn't sweat in them already, they'd be on their way back to Amazon. :(• First of all, like the other shorts that I bought from Urban Cycling Apparel, they fit SMALLER than advertised. I fit into a size 36 comfortably, and went with the XL a bit nervous that they'd be too loose (with a fitting range of 36-38 size waist). Nope, they were a snug fit and didn't give much wiggle room either.• Second, I didn't care for the material — both the padded undershorts and the actual shorts themselves. The removable padded lining was more reminiscent of cheap fitness wear and the outer shorts gave me flashbacks of parachute pants from the 80s...but as shorts. PLUS, the pictures on Amazon showed a matte finish on the fabric, but it was definitely NOT a matte finish. They were down-right shiny. Also, while the outer layer seemed durable, the inner layer didn't seem like it'd last me that long with a whole season of commuting. The fabric on the lining was thin (to a fault) and seemed like an inadequate attempt to create a lining between the shorts and your skin.• Third, the pockets were awkward and didn't feel useful to me, largely because of the snug fit. I would have preferred a much looser fit cargo style short. I don't think I'd want to keep anything in the pockets simply because the shorts were so tight-fitting.• Lastly the padding isn't that great, in fact it's really flimsy. When stacked up against all my other biker shorts (name-brand biking shorts that I paid between $50-100 for), the padding was extremely squishy and didn't supply much support or padding for the goods. If you ask me, you're much better off paying the extra $25-50 for some shorts that will give you adequate support and protection for those longer rides.Like I said in my other review, I really hate posting bad reviews on products — but the minute I pulled them out of the plastic bags and even tried them on, I was filled with buyer's remorse. You may like these, but they were a strike-out for me. They weren't "loose-fit", the material and construction didn't feel like it would last very long, and they just screamed parachute pant-shorts.

Ridiculously long
Quality good and I really like the liner. The length, however, falls between my knees and ankles. More like baggy capris. Ordered a large which is perfect for my 32” waist. Am returning.

You will regret buying these
I bought these as my first pair of designated mountain bike shorts. Looking at the picture in the advertisement, they looked super durable and tough so I bought them. After first inspection I realized they were a lot like the parachute pants ( but lesser quality) I had in middle school and were not like the picture in the advertisement, but I decided to give them a try. They fit well and the inserts were padded fairly well. I had worn these a total of 6 times on 10-15 mile bike rides and they began to tear apart at the seams and in the middle of the fabric. Both the liners and shorts are falling apart in a shockingly short amount of time. I am the type of guy that gives used clothing to the Mens shelter because they typically last me so long that I get bored with them, but not these shorts. These are so bad that they would make a cheep Chinese clothing company blush. I was going to have my Mom sew them up to try and reinforce the seams but the material is separating in the middle of the material so I think the garbage can is the best place for these shorts. Waste of money, shame on the company, after so many people have given feedback, they have done nothing to fix the problem or better their product. REI has some quality shorts that I am giving a go, they cost me a pretty penny but they are guaranteed to last a reasonable amount of time.

Design fails as far as rolling it up but overall good
OIverall good with zippers - howeve a failure when you want to roll it up to show the legs as it does not fold/crease really nicely - also velcrov tightner is silly as it is still baggy in the rest of the shorts when you use it - but for the price good

Undershorts are great, cargo shorts not quite there.
I ordered 2 pairs one with the yellow stitching and the other with red. Both have great padded undershorts and both fit as expected. But the pair that arrived with the yellow stitching is made of a material that feels a bit more like a heavy canvas you might find on a tent more than it feels like something you would want to wear cycling, whereas the pair with red stitching feels like a much better fabric. That said, I am keeping them. I can use the undershorts with other shorts I already have and maybe after a wash or 2 the heavy canvas feeling ones will be a little better, hopefully. Regardless, great value for the price.

Mtn Biking Shorts
I feel these shorts were a great buy. They fit very nicely and seem to be very well made. They are heavy then expected, but since I crash mtn biking periodically, I figure they will last longer. I have found them very comfortable, the liner also fits good and I like that it is separate. I got the yellow accent colors, which jazz it up.

Mostly good, couple minor complaints
After reading other reviews, the size seemed to be the most common complaint. I followed the guidance of others and am very happy with the size I chose.I also got the liner shorts and am pretty happy with them as well. The cushion is nicely padded, yet still not feeling like a diaper when I walk around with them on.Biggest complaints, so far, are:1) The fabric. It does not breathe, at all... On hot-weather rides, the heat is uncomfortable...2) The top front pockets have no closure... So anything you put in there is at risk of falling out while riding...3) The bottom front pockets (over the quads) do not hold contents very well. The entire purpose of these pockets, versus traditional cargo-shorts-style pockets, is that things sit ON TOP of your leg while riding, not dangling on the side of your leg. When I put my cell phone in there, for example, within minutes, it has shifted sideways, making it annoying to ride, and very difficult to get out... A pair of pants from another company has a small inner-liner pocket for cell phones or whatever; that is quite helpful.Otherwise, so far, these are fine shorts, but probably wouldn't order them again.
