orientation of pages is frustrating
This book is cute but as others have mentioned the pages change orientation repeatedly throughout, making it frustrating to read when cuddled up with a squirmy child. I returned it for another book.

It's really a book about biomes
Readers are challenged to listen to the sounds of the world, and what follows is an introduction to the various biomes of the world through one creature who lives there and the sounds it makes.I never guessed from the cover or the opening spread that this would be a book on the biomes, but it is. And it's a rather cute one at that with short, succinct but on point scientific descriptions of each one. Melissa Sweet's illustrations are perfect for this, and the sounds used are not always conventional animal sounds providing some more unique onomatopoeia examples.

Listen to Our World has great illustrations, and gives young children a taste of many habitats and climates around the world. But the concept of listening to sounds the animals make just doesn't fit with the rest of the book, and I still can't get over the description of the elephants' sound as being "honk." Wish the unifying theme of the book actually fit with the subject matter and the illustrations; this book has potential to be much better.

This book is awesome, I don't care what all the haters say on the reviews. The illustration is amazing and the use of color throughout is excellent and stimulating. It shows many different environments and animals around the world, and let's be honest, what child does not love animals! It allows teachers and parents to use their imagination with animal noises as well.

There's many things I don't like about this book
There's many things I don't like about this book: some of the drawings, having to change the orientation of the book every so often, the fact that there's no story... But for me the worst is the fact that these kids don't seem to have a daddy, only mummy is around to kiss them good morning and again at the end of the day. I'm giving it two stars because I'm returning it and all the process seems very easy, but I don't recommend this book.
